Welcome to the Jungle: Animal Prints Inspired By Dolce & Gabbana

Animal prints have been around forever, since the near beginning of time. So it's not surprising that that they come back in fashion periodically. From leopard print to zebra prints -- you name it -- everything from the jungle will be welcomed this fall. Dolce & Gabbana have always been a huge fan of this wild style, making it their signature, and this fall other designers like Phillip Lim and Oscar de la Renta are embracing it as well. From realistic to abstract versions of the prints, they are everywhere and they're a bold way to add to some punch, pattern and texture to any outfit. Feeling risky? Go for a head to toe look inspired by the Dolce & Gabbana runway and pair a tastefully sexy leopard pencil skirt like the Mirror & Dash Leopard Skirt from Urban Outfitters with a Torn by Ronny Kobo bold shouldered long sleeve top. The different scaled prints and covered up shoulders make the look work, and at a fraction of the cost of the runway look! If a head-to-toe animal print is too much for you, try wearing an animal print top or shoe. Check out the slidshow to see ways to get wild with animal prints.

A New Kind Of Animal Print

Fashion-y types are often quick to say that anyone can pull off the trend du jour, but we all know that this isn't the case. For me, that trend is animal prints- while I can appreciate them on others, leopard spots and zebra stripes just aren't for me. Lately, however, a different kind of animal print has been on my mind -- a more literal interpretation, if you will. Wren's silk tunic gets whimsically wild when a stampede of tiny elephants settle in rows. Maeve's printed shirtdress is easily the pick of the litter -- look closely and you'll see different dog breeds! Perhaps you haven't worn a critter print since you were a toddler, or you feel they're strictly for wellies and pjs (penguin printed flannel pants come to mind), but they take on a stylish edge when stamped on fall's rich fabrics. New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: Diane von Furstenberg

I always come away from a Diane von Furstenberg show (ok, ok, a DvF "picture viewing") with more ideas than both my head and wallet can handle: tons of hair accessory inspiration, the sudden urge mix patterns without abandon, and perhaps most notably, a completely overstuffed wish list. Her Spring/Summer 2010 show at New York Fashion Week was no exception- the looks presented a highly wearable, more elegant take on globetrotter style with looks ranging from printed dresses layered under belted safari jackets to saturated desert-hued separates in a variety of textures, all topped off with colorful bangles and the most playfully whimsical hairpieces. Her use of patterns was astoundingly imaginative- blurry florals, gilded ethnic designs, and slightly abstract animal prints made for a collection that was adventurous and refined all at once, not to mention realistic-- whether intentional or not, the idea of layering a simple grey tee under an embellished dress exhibits the kind of stylish versatility we can all appreciate these days. Go Wild With Animal Prints For Your Home!

For my fall wardrobe, I've been looking to include animal prints whether it's a luxurious leopard print jacket or zebra print flats. However, these sultry prints can't stay confined to your closet! Your home can always use some animal prints. Thankfully, you don't need to go to a safari or harm any poor creatures to put some animal prints in your home. From your living room to the bathroom, you can easily add a touch of the wild side to every room. Take a look at these animal print chenille toss pillows. They're super soft, less than $20, and sure to liven up a plain sofa. Serve up a meal on zebra printed plates which are bound to make your regular meat and potatoes meal seem a bit more exciting than usual. Like a lot of other decadent things in life, animal prints should always be used in moderation. If not, then you run the risk of looking like Austin Powers decorated your pad. Take a peek at my slideshow to see how you can bring the animal kingdom into your home!

    Amsterdam International Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: ...

Born in Los Angeles from the socialite mind of Ava Riley and brought to Amsterdam in cooperation with Olcay Gulsen, the SuperTrash collection may exude plenty of Hollywood It-Girl glamour at heart, but it has undoubtedly adopted plenty of Dutch flavor. The label showed at this season's Amsterdam International Fashion Week in a crowded venue with former supermodel Janice Dickinson as a special guest sitting front row. The collection was split into three themes: Animal Jungle, Blossom and Kaleidoscope. The first was inspired by all imperfections of nature, such as animal prints and flowing lines, while the second theme conjured up spring-like elements- elegant, glamorous, and a little naive. Kaleidoscope was all about colors with bright tunics and caftans. Overall it was very commercial, very feminine, and a very playful display of fashion that SuperTrash pulled off well. Take a look at the slideshow for a glimpse of the collection!

CollegeCandy Wish List: Roxy Dandy Lion Bag

Cute bathing suit? Check. Sunscreen? Check. Awesomely colorful beach bag? Hmm... maybe not yet. Well, Roxy is here to save the day with its cleverly named bag, Dandy Lion. The bag is made of durable cotton canvas, and its wide platform bottom makes storing your large beach towels a breeze. It has a back wall zip pocket and a slip pocket for your small items (so your cell phone and iPod don't get lost in the shuffle) and a magnetic snap closure to keep everything secure. The bag is lightweight and big enough to carry your sunglasses, wallet, change of clothing, and all your other beach essentials (like, I don't know, snacks?). Personally, I'm all about the animal print bag in black. It's bright, striking, and screams "have fun with fashion " It also screams "don't worry about spilling sunscreen/margaritas all over me, because I'm totally affordable and you can throw me right into the washing machine." More great beach days, here I come! Check out the CollegeCandy blog for more of the season's must-have shopping picks!
