Which Country Cutie Had The Winning Look At The Academy Of ...

Okay, I have to admit -- I used to hate country music. From the slow twangy accents to the depressingly lame lyrics about dead dogs and barbecue stains and broken hearts, I just could never get into it... until recently! With the invasion of young powerhouse vocalists like Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood ("Last Name" -- finally a country song I can relate to! Just kidding...) and down-to-earth lyrics from the likes of Taylor Swift and Sugarland, today's country seems to have adopted a hipper vibe, a more rock-ish sound, and an overall edgier quality that gives the genre a more modern infectious energy and mass worldwide appeal! And to celebrate such musical innovation, the Academy of Country Music Awards honored music mavens young and old in Las Vegas this past Sunday, and if the genre's leading ladies weren't already enviable enough in their awards-sweeping talent and golden-haired good looks, their glamorous red carpet gowns almost stole the show out of their own hands! Carrie Underwood, the night's biggest winner, toned down her usual sparkle with a fairytale-esque pastel ensemble, while Taylor Swift donned a mature one-shoulder red gown by Angel Sanchez that matched both the carpet and the backdrop, yet had her standing out just the same! Vote below on which of country's biggest stars made the best red carpet appearance! Photo Credit: PR Photos

It was like seeing Project Runway in full swing, only this time we already knew the winner. Angel Sanchez opened his garment district studio last night for a sneak peek at the designer's intricate Spring 2009 collection. With several gowns displayed in the showroom and several more in various states of completion in his studio, the event was a fascinating look into the designer's process. Let's just say it was a bit more inspiring than watching Stella get auf'd this week. Click SEE SLIDESHOW for more of my shots from the fete. NYFW Trend Report: Fall Goes Glam With Gold

When I asked for his fall 2008 predictions,Vogue's editor-at large André Leon Talley told me there was going to be a move towards a new sensibility of romance with "rich gold- gold as Fort Knox- lot of gold tones, lots of metallic shine"- bear in mind, this interview took place on day one of fashion week- when no one really knows which direction the trends will move toward. I was a bit skeptical by André's prediction at first- I mean, haven't we had enough of the metallic craze? Apparently not, because but not surprisingly, he was right, and as the days went on and I hopped from one show to the next, I noticed that almost every collection was enlivened with the help of glimmery shimmery golds. We saw gold floral lamé dresses, gold trench-coats, sheer gold tops, gold bodice dresses, gold shift dresses, gold pintucked a-line skirts, gold pencil skirts, Matelasse gold, jacquard gold, shimmery gold, gold coins, gold leopards- you get the picture!

NYFW Trend Alert: Shades of Purple Dominate Runways

Come fall 2008, all the Teletubbies are gonna be envying Tinky Winky's style. I'm not sure if the credit should go to the Tinks or everyone's favorite dinosaur Barney, but purple was EVERYWHERE this past New York Fashion Week, and will be the shade to crave when fall hits. From electric purple, to pale purple, to plum, to violet, and every shade in between, this snazzy hue is the one thing preventing us all from classifying the fall '08 runway collections and bleak, drab, and dreary.
