Video Style Steal: Kristinia Debarge Works It In "Sabotage"

    image

If Kristinia DeBarge looks slightly familiar to you, don't worry, you're not going crazy. I watched American Juniors too -- I'll admit it -- back when they still believed in inflicting Simon Cowell-like cruelty upon children... and Kristinia was quite the contender. She may not have made the winning group of singers (but let's face it -- it was probably for the best), but now she's making it big with single girl anthems like "Goodbye" from her solo album Exposed. In the video for her second single "Sabotage," she dons her darker side in a cropped moto jacket and textured tights, and shows off some sultry dance moves to boot. She may have first arrived on the scene years ago as a cute little crooner, but now she's sexy, single, and stylish... and ready to kick some serious butt. Click "See Video" to watch "Sabotage," then check the slideshow to see how you can cop one of Kristinia's video looks! Photo Credit: MTV.com

Kris Vs. Adam: Which American Idol Finalist Dresses Like A ...

After weeks of country-wide auditions (both impressive and depressing), loads of judge tension and quarreling, months of neck-to-neck competitive performances, a whole dictionary's worth of nonsensical new "Paula-isms," and style makeovers galore, it's crazy to think that it all comes down to just one night of singing their hearts out and a few billion text message votes. One of the finalists is about to have his life changed forever (as if that hasn't already happened to both of them already... or as if actually being crowed the "winner" really seals one's fate -- just ask Taylor Hicks). On one end, we have the guy-next-door acoustic Guitar Hero, Kris Allen, and on the other, a bad-ass Broadway-gone-rebel rocker Adam Lambert -- an unlikely duo who have just about as much in common as night and day. And aside from their vastly divergent musical tastes and sounds, their Glam Squad makeovers on the show's later rounds have them exhibiting their contrasting vibes not only in their musical stylings, but in their distinctly different fashion sense as well. Kris Allen's casual button-down shirts and blazers pair perfectly with his pared down acoustic accompaniments and raw yet soulful voice, while Adam Lambert's flashing lights and illuminating staircase entrances just wouldn't be complete without an equally dramatic rockstar look. We know this isn't "Fashion Idol," but hey -- how many times have you heard Simon snarl, "I absolutely loathe what you're wearing"? Face it -- posh performance ensembles are vital, whether or not it's really about the singing, so check out the slideshow for a week-by-week comparison of the last two standing, then vote below on whose performance outfits outdid his competitor's! Video Style Steal: Kelly Clarkson Buttons Up, Then Lets Loose ...

    image

If it wasn't clear enough in the previous Kelly Clarkson style steal, I'm totally loving the songstress's comeback as she rides it out, and I fully intend to soak up her rocker-chick presence in the spotlight until she goes back into hibernation and deprives me of catchy breakup therapy tunes for another long while. In the video for her first single, "My Life Would Suck Without You," Kelly showed us her softer side with a casual-cool take on her usual edgy style, and now with her second single, "I Do Not Hook Up," Kelly tackles rumors head on and proves that she doesn't need a boy on her arm to complete her outfit! One thing I've always loved about her videos is the way she tells a story through the scenes, and then never fails to break out with a belting chorus in a kick-ass outfit, rocking out with her band behind her. Makes me wish I had my own music-playing entourage to whip my hair in front of! While I'll never be Kelly Clarkson (aside from our matching and nose studs and curvy rear ends), I can at least covet the clothes she dons in the video as she causes a ruckus at an uppity lunch party, then lets loose onstage while out on the town. With a sexy fitted halter dress and studded shoes made to walk all over those misbehaving boys, it's way easier to channel Kelly's looks than it is to sing along to the video on-key! Click SEE VIDEO to watch it for yourself, then check out the slideshow to find out how you can cop her clothing!

American Idol's Glam Squad Gets Its Hands On Season 8's Top ...

So far, Season 8 of American Idol has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions and surprises. To name just a few, we've seen tension with the addition of new judge Kara DioGuardi, the surprise announcement of a top 13 instead of the traditional 12 (yay Anoop!), the premature elimination of pint-sized powerhouse Alexis Grace, the introduction of the judges' power to save one contestant from the looming doom of dismissal, and Paula Abdul's inability to complete a coherent sentence (okay, so that's no surprise). One thing that has remained consistent however, is Stylehive's favorite part of the show -- contestant makeovers! We saw former Idol favorites Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood go from drab to fab from their seasons' auditions to their final stages, and the show's Glam Squad, a team of stylists that help shop for looks for the show's performances and results shows, is once again having their way with this year's finalists (and boy did some of them need it)! From Anoop Desai's transformation from nerdy college kid to urban RnB star-in-the-making to Matt Giraud's reworked wardrobe to match his Justin Timberlake sound-alike voice, this season's Idol hopefuls are not only turning out to be the most lovable set of singers, but the most stylish too! Don't forget to watch the show on this week's special day and time tomorrow, Wednesday at 8, to see how the Top 10 fare in performance and poshness, and in the meantime check out the slideshow for more pictures of this season's Glam Squad makeovers! Style Poll: Paula Abdul, So Hot or Soooooo Very Not?

    image
    Chris K. on Jun 6, 2008 4:16 PM PDT
Okay I kind of gave away what I think of Paula Abdul's dress of choice at last night's Neuromuscular Disease Foundation charity function in the headline there. But maybe there's somebody out there who can explain to me why a white fluffy top on the already busty American Idol host - sans necklace, no less - was a good decision. Me, I'll never look at meringue the same way again.
