Luxe Minimalism For Your Home On A Minimal Budget!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Sep 22, 2009 8:20 PM PDT
Simplicity in design is a hard thing to achieve. To show good taste and sophistication through minimalism and to have practical and beautiful styles that are sleek and not overwhelming are all characteristics of good design. Every time I see displays of furniture showrooms, or flip through home decor magazines, I always find myself drawn to the most simple and clutter-free layouts. There's something modern, chic and comforting about the sleek lines and clean, spacious feel of a room designed in a minimalist manner. However, the prices for these pieces usually are so minimal. A house should be a home and you should decorate it the way you want, but not if that means buying the furniture is going to take the roof over your head away! I've found multiple pieces and home accessories that will give your living space the sleek, minimalist look you want, without your bank account falling into minimalist territory as well! Check out the slideshow for ideas!

Say It Loud: Got 'Em At Aldo & I'm Proud!

The days of dreaming about how to get those $600 designer shoes are over. Most of us grew up with brands like Steve Madden and Aldo in our local mall or shopping center. Tried and true, we visited these stores for last-minute parties or a pair of work pumps... but not anymore. These brands have caught all the way up, and now feature designs that are fierce, funky and fabulous. With the economy in such a rough state, money is spread thinly for most. But for us ladies, having an amazing shoe must always be in the budget. With most prices at $100 or less, and styles that rival designer brands, you can two-step in your new shoes all the way to the bank! We love these strappy croc booties, especially at the bargain price of $90! See more fashion, beauty, and style news at Essence.

Amsterdam International Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Ilja ...

While designer Ilja Visser juggles three different labels at once, she manages to convey one overall cohesive message that spans across all three innovative lines: easy sophistication. For this year's Amsterdam International Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2010, she focused on presenting this theme while showing off all three unique labels. The three collections -- "Ilja" (couture), "Ready To Fish" (business line), and "Valizz" (affordable fashion) -- each had a clear target audience, yet all managed to have that relaxed, fluid silhouette and a soft color palette. Valizz looked very wearable and appropriately commercial with soft pastels, fluid fabrics and classic basics like simple jackets, jeans and wide trousers. Ready-to-wear< consisted of dresses, jackets and skirts in softer colors and faded prints. Couture by Ilja boasted a variety of extreme volume in dresses but also through some chic pieces in a summery tweed. Love what you see? Good news: next year she will open her first boutique in Amsterdam! Check out the slideshow for some of the runway highlights!

As if you needed another reason to take a trip to Target (honestly, what don't they have), here's one more! Celeb-favorite Hollywood hot spot Intuition has arrived at Target stores in the form of a trendy and highly affordable line of accessories including bags, sunglasses, jewelry, and more! Prices are as low as $2.99 for headbands, and top out at $29.99 for handbags, and really who can say no to that? In my shopping cart: the mixed media necklace made up of layered strands and charms, and the similarly layered mixed media bracelet, for that effortlessly piled-on look. Says Intuition owner Jaye Hersh, "Target is known for celebrated design at an exceptional value. Collaborating with Target on a collection has always been a dream of mine. I am thrilled to offer on-trend accessories that won't break the bank to women across the country." Reviews of the collection on Target's website are pretty solid so far, which helps when you're contemplating the checkout button. Honestly, I'm just a fan of any cheap collection that keeps me from treading into the deathtrap known as the Forever21 accessories pile. You can shop the entire Hollywood Intuition accessories collection here!

Reading the latest celebrity gossip magazines always leave me pining for a bigger bank account so I can have that "must have" designer handbag or gown my favorite stars are wearing. And while celebrities may say they are just regular people too, sometimes it's hard to believe when they are holding a diaper bag worth more than my car! To soothe my mind off of my finances, I read People Style Watch where they have a gallery of celeb photos wearing much more wallet friendly items. Their affordable finds are under $100 from Miley Cyrus' $25 H&M dress to Eva Longoria Parker's $40 Old Navy safari jacket, I feel much better about attaining that celebrity look without the exorbitant price.
