New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: BCBG Max Azria

BCBGMAXAZRIA kicked off the start of New York Fashion Week with nothing but gorgeous dresses parading down the runway. The popular mini bandage dress made appearances in bright coral and rich purple with sheer insets. (I had to double check to make sure I wasn't at Herve Leger!) Designer Max Azria played with colorblocking with solids and abstract prints which reminded me of a Jackson Pollock painting or crashing waves on the beach. I'm looking forward to seeing the loose t-shirt dresses and asymmetrical hems in-stores and on our favorite celebs. As a matter of fact, two dresses are already available for purchase on the BCBG website! The models carried small clutches with big tassels hanging off which is definitely one of the next must-have party bags. As for hair and beauty, all the models had their straight hair tucked behind their ears with fresh and natural looking makeup. Click on my slideshow to see my favorite looks from the runway!

Get Vanessa Hudgens' Chic, Carefree Look

At this year's MTV Movie Awards, Vanessa Hudgens looked absolutely stunning in a beautifully breezy summer-ready ensemble. For Vanessa, it's always all about the accessories. The actress wore a gorgeous tangerine dress from BCBG Max Azria, adding a unique edge with tribal-inspired beaded Jimmy Choo sandals, a sleek Nancy Gonzalez box clutch, gold bangles, and two necklaces- one short, and a long pendant necklace from H. Stern for Diane Von Furstenberg (a signature piece she is rarely seen without). This look is perfect for your summer soirees and can be dressed up or down to fit any occasion. You can pile on the accessories like Vanessa, or keep it minimal. If there is a lesson to be learned, it's that you should always incorporate your unique style to any ensemble. Which Whitney Art Party Look Gets Your Bid?

    image

The Whitney Contemporaries Art Party And Auction held last Wednesday at NYC's Skylight left me with two burning questions- one, isn't every Whitney party an art party? And two, what was up with Hana Soupkova's dress? In case you weren't already aware, the Contemporaries are a group of art patrons who support the Whitney's dedication to up-and-coming talent and innovation. They're also granted full access to the NYC art scene-- not such a bad gig. The event was essentially a who's who of the dynamic New York social scene, with Lydia Hearst and Tinsley Mortimer mingling amongst the likes of model Hilary Rhoda and actress Camilla Belle. I've narrowed down the most noteworthy looks to a mere three- read on to vote and let us know which look get your bid! Photo credit: PR Photos

New York Fashion Week Runway: BCBG Takes It to the Future

    image
Sabrina Newman on Feb 17, 2009 1:19 PM PST
For the BCBG Max Azria fall 2009 collection, designing couple Lubov and Max Azria took it to the future with a highly artistic, beautifully crafted collection that surpassed the bounds of the safety zones their known for sticking within. The collection centered around draped silhouettes and geometric cuts, all of which moved beautifully with each and every step. The delicate silhouettes were enlivened with the occasional jeweled embellishment, intricate pleating, and hand painted prints. Adding fuel to the futuristic fire were the accessories-- metallic tights, chunky platform, and lucite jewel-box clutches. Overall, while this collection was a bit more on the serious and sophisticated side than those of seasons past, it still possessed all the classic timelessness responsible for the brand's massive appeal.

New York Fashion Week Trend Report: Asymmetry On The Runways

    image

You don't have to be in the front rows to tilt your head at one of Spring 2009's most notable trends. Designers have been dabbling in asymmetry for some time now but this time around, one-shouldered dresses were put front and center, a significant departure from previous seasons where the daring look seemed to be pushed to the sidelines. Max Azria looked at asymmetry from a different angle with a one-shouldered, bias-cut gown with a front halter strap, while Marc Jacobs indulged in his signature offbeat style by sending a model down the catwalk in a quirky, single shoulder-baring top. Nicole Miller layered a structured asymmetrical shift over a crisp shirt dress making the look oddly workplace appropriate, and BCBGMAXAZRIA's coral-pink asymmetrical dress was draped so beautifully, giving the illusion that it was falling off the model- intentionally, I'm certain. Click the SLIDESHOW to see who else picked up on the trend.
