Style Flashback: Clarissa From 'Clarissa Explains It All'

"Clarissa Explains It All" had us hooked on SNICK (that's Saturday Night Nickelodeon for those of you who don't remember) from the moment it debuted. We loved how Clarissa broke the fourth wall to let us into her world and we can still sing along with the show's theme song ("naaah nah nah na-na...way cool"), but it was her eclectic teenybopper style that had us always coming back for more. To help us recreate Clarissa's look for today we checked in with our fashion expert Brian, who had some great tips.

Brian says: Clarissa's style might be a little too retro (and not in a good way) for today, but you can still capture the essence of her look without getting sideways glances on the street. Swap her button-front shirt with a fun peasant blouse and substitute a pair of girly ballet flats for her boring black shoes.

Dress Like A Rock Star With Denim Of Virtue

Inside all of us is a rock star waiting to get out -- a leather jacket-toting, torn-up jeans-wearing, utterly fabulous rock star. Thanks to Denim of Virtue, the time has never been better to embrace this inner desire. This rock star image was the first thing that came to mind upon viewing the Denim of Virtue collection. An array of distressed jean selections, each one was more stage-worthy than the next. The denim even comes in varying levels of distressing, catering to a wide variety of consumers. There's the subtle collection, boasting boyfriend, skinny and wide-leg jeans with only a hint of wear-and-tear. The second is the moderate collection, where skinny jeans show more tailored signs of distress. And finally, there is the extreme, where 90s punk rears its head in the form of carefully placed holes that decorate skinny jeans. When you're done rockin' out, be sure to check out WhatsWear for more notable new brands!

Style Flashback: Buffy From "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"

Goth never looked quite as good as it did on Sarah Michelle Gellar as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." She kicked some serious butt with some serious style. Buffy rocked black and leather like nobody's business, and the sultry bad-girl look she sported on the show landed her one of the hottest vampires on the small screen (we love you, Angel). We wanted some tips on how to re-create Buffy's look, and Lemondrop's fashion expert Brian answered the call. Brian says, "Buffy was edgy without being too over the top; sexy without showing too much skin -- and that's the reason she was always so stylin'. She straddled the line between kick-ass vampire slayer and regular teenager by mixing textures and styles to create a unique, am-I-dangerous-or-not look." Style Flashback: Lisa Turtle From 'Saved by the Bell'

Jessie Spano was the brains and Kelly Kapowski was the beauty, but it was Lisa Turtle who had all the style. Saved by the Bell's resident style expert and gossip queen was sassy with sophisticated taste -- heck, she was even accepted into the Fashion Institute of Technology on the show's finale. But could we pull off her over-the-top look? To the rescue with some tips on making it work: our in-house fashion expert Brian. Brian says Lisa's wild style is back in a big way with graphic fit-and-flare dresses and light-wash denim jackets. Turn down the volume on her high-intensity style by sticking to tamer prints with fewer colors. Check out more of Lisa Turtle's style by clicking over to our friends at Lemondrop!

Style Flashback: Rayanne From "My So-Called Life"

Admit it, you secretly loved Rayanne Graff's quirky, nouveau-hippie threads on "My So-Called Life." She was the fun, free-spirited Laverne to misery chick Angela Chase's Shirley, and her offbeat layers (plaid shirts over tank tops) and wild, streaked hair are the epitome of grunge-era style. But how do you make Rayanne's look modern and chic? To the rescue comes our style expert Brian with some tips on updating Rayanne's quirky look. Brian says: It's true, from distressed jeans to slouchy, oversize blazers, designers are partying like it's 1994. The key to pulling of the look in 2009 is picking pieces that are vaguely reminiscent of the era without being too costume-y. You'll also want to mix them in with items that feel "now" to keep the look current. This paisley blouse by Candie's has modern feminine touches (ruffles, a smocked hem) that totally update the retro print. Plus, the rich brown color feels current. Today's version of Rayanne's tight acid-wash denim is a pair of dark rinse skinny jeans. I love this pair by McQ. Completely unadorned, they'll mix perfectly with anything in your closet. Keep your Docs for posterity's sake, but slip into a pair of slouchy ankle boots like these by Deena & Ozzy. Studded detailing on the harness strap give them a rock and roll feel. The '90s were all about mixing the formal with the casual (prom dresses with sneakers, anyone?), so top off this look with a pair of elegant drop earrings like these by Pade Vavra. Show Some Skin In A Chic Cutout Dress!

    image

Remember the '90s? When models weren't just models, they were supermodels. The glamazons graced the covers of magazines and walked the red carpet just as often as the runway. They strutted their stuff in sexy body-con frocks; who could forget Cindy Crawford's strappy black mini or Elizabeth Hurley's safety-pinned skintight Versace gown? While those times may seem like a forgotten era, at least their way of dressing has come back in style. It's been hard to ignore the all the body conscious dresses out there! Ever since the return of Herve Leger, the fashion world just can't get enough. But now the snug silhouette has turned even more daring! Designers have been snipping and clipping into these dresses, giving us a whole new way to be revealing. Some designers, like Stella McCartney and Black Halo, have gone the subtle route, offering strappy, open cut outs around the shoulders. Another subtle way to rock this trend is with a cut out back, like Charlotte Ronson's exposed zipper mini dress! Or for a cheap fix try the Spring & Clifton cut out dolman tunic. Some designers have even opted to give you cut outs with out actual skin showing but replacing some areas of fabric with micro-mesh. My favorite is the Two Toned Mini Dress from American Apparel. But if you really want to embody that sex pot '90s style, you have to go all out with some daring mid drift cut outs a la Alexander Wang! See the slideshow for the cutout dresses on my wishlist.
