This retro modern Italian ceiling lamp was discovered and removed from a kitchen in Colorado.  The house was built in 1960.  The lamp was original to the house.  We removed it ourselves. Since it had been hanging from the same ceiling for 51 years, it did not suffer the damage and wear normally found on mid-century Italian toleware objects.  It was incredibly dirty, OMG.  Removing the years of kitchen grease, dust, and petrified bugs, revealed very well-preserved toleware.  There are pinholes and flakes in the white enamel paint, as shown in images below, easily remedied. The green paint is 100%.  No corrosion or missing metal.  Real nice. One white ball lamp cover is original and it is made of hard unmarred plastic.  The other two glass ball covers covers were replacements sometime in the past. All of the screws are white-capped and original.  The copper wiring is original and in working condition. The Underwriters Labratory label is yellow and reads:  'Cerama Inc. 1, Listed Electric Fixture Issue No. D-9759'.  Measures 19' long on each of three sides. Stands 12½' tall.  This is a beautiful understated mid-century modern Italian toleware lamp.  Most 1950 - 1960s toleware items from Italy lean to the 'overstated' side as was the fashion back then.  Bright and cheery for the kitchen or garden room.

Special Caro Nan purse with a 1950 D copper penny.  The date on the penny makes it special. The story goes: Caroline McDaniel and Nancy Steele began making purses in the mid-20th Century in Jackson, Mississippi. Most reference materials say it all began in the 1960s, BUT  it began in the 1950s. At first they sold them through their 'garage' boutique.  Soon the purses became so popular they were sold by boutiques throughout the U.S.  Caroline and Nancy (Caro Nan) made these purses by hand.   Steele's daughter applied the penny to each purse.  The penny's date was the year the purse was made. The penny on this purse is a copper wheat penny dated 1950.  Earliest date found yet. Interesting to note that this purse is not signed on the inner lid as most are.  This purse was made before the girls decided to sign them.  Nice example of earliest Caro Nan.  Hand-made, hand-painted.  They produced different painted scenes of popular tourist towns and used different decopage decor on the purses. Each purse is a bit unique it's own way.  The reference we found on this purse relating to a city is 'Rancho Sante Fe' which is in California.  Stores catering to tourists sold purses with their town depicted. It is in very nice condition considering it is 61 years old and is made of basket weave.  The gingham quilted material inside is clean as a whistle with no signs of wear.  The purse is whole, no holes that penetrate through to the inner compartment.  There are a couple of breaks in the weave on the base corners as you can see in the images. A an even 1/8 inch break of center body just right of center (see image 6).  Fortunately, the breaks have not damaged the integrity of the purse, it is still stable and sturdy.  The base really shows the age, see image 8, new felt can be applied to cover the original worn felt.  There is no wear to the hand-painted buildings.  The lid decoupage decor shows some fading and a bit of the upper layer of the Dutch Boy, butterfly and playing cards has peeled off. Measures 9' tall, 9' wide, and 4½' thick.

Funky retro beach hat hand-made in Mexico.  We found this cool tower hat with a 1950s Caro Nan basket purse. It probably dates to the same period. In old beach party movies, the mod beatnik guys and gals wore hats like this as they twisted the night away. It's in good shape.  No holes or tears.  A little fraying around the rim edges.  The straw discs are a bit disheveled but complete and secured by rivets.  It has a yellow cord to secure hat to head.  Inside the tower is a stamped 'MEXICO'.  It is very clean. Measures 7½' tall, 15' wide brim.  Perfect for the gardner, beach party, Halloween.

Beautiful set of turned wood tall table shakers.  The wood is light-weight and soft.  The grain appears to be oak, but the tell-tale sign of teakwood (reddish color) can be seen on the base of one shaker where a tiny piece has slivered off.  They really do look like stained oak, but we are certain it is not oak.  Another possiblility could be 'redwood', but again, this wood is very light-weight. Masterfully done by hand and machine. Topped with mushroom caps.  In beautiful condition, still rich in color and no scratching or staining.  A small bump at the base is present but not noticeable. They appear unused.  In image 3 you can see that one shaker is missing it's cork.  It busted up as we were removing it.  The shaker on the right has it's original cork which we removed successfully but it's so hard from age it is liable to bust up soon.  The corks are a standard size, and we'll include a couple of new corks for the new owner.  Each measures 7.75' tall.  Circa 1960s.

Blue Magic bowl by famed Swedish glass artist Mats Jonasson. Jonasson was born in 1945 Sweden.  In 1981 he purchased shares of the newly independent Malaras Glassworks which is still in business today. This big beautiful bowl is in perfect condition and impressed with 'Mats Jonasson, Sweden' on the seat.  The 'Blue Magic' line is contemporary, but discontinued. Circa 2010. Measures 9½' round and 2.75' tall.  Deep bowl with multitudes of uses.  Beautiful for ocean / beach decor.  Regal blue glass is smooth on the inside, textured on the out side and stylized with a white frosted clam shell rim.

Mid-century mod 'imprisoned' art glass.  Stunningly beautiful dark blue glass hand-blown into brass cages.  Set includes (1) giant decanter with stopper and (4) normal sized goblets (images show only three goblets - there are FOUR goblets included). Magnificent decorative decanter stands 22½' tall and weighs 4½' pounds (shown in image above with a normal size soda bottle and in image two below with a normal size wine bottle to help illustrate it tremendous size).  Accompanied by four goblets which measure 6 3/4' tall.  The goblets are large but perfect for use with your favorite libations.  The decanter should be used for decor only.  The stopper does not provide an airtight closure, and the decanter is too big and heavy for practical use. All in perfect condition. The stopper was not ground to fit and wobbles, new owner should secure the stopper to the inner bottle neck with Museum Gel or similar.  The deep royal blue, or cobalt blue color of the stopper matches the color exactly.  It is original to the bottle. This set dates to the 1960s.  Maker uncertain.  The large bottle has four pontil marks on its base (normally one pontil mark is present).  This means the glass blower used four rods to hold it during creation. Unusual.  The base is ground flat. The bubbles protruding through the metal are concave on the inside. While researching these fabulous glass objects we found an interesting article dated 1964 about Filipe Derflingher, a glass artist in Mexico who coined the phrase 'Imprisoned Glass'. The following article will pop up in a separate window. Read article about Imprisoning Glass.  This type of glass decor is also referred to as 'caged glass'. The article mentions Derflingher used 'recycled' glass.  Please note that this art glass set is of well-made glass with no inclusions and intense color (not recycled). Statement making unique decor for your bar area.  Very hard to find.

Masculine decanter in golden amber brown with a pair of matching shot glasses.  Befitting a fine Bourbon.  The decanter was blown by hand with an applied spiral 'snake' adorning the neck.  Stopper is hand-blown with an inner stylized bubble.  The stopper probably is not original. It fits well, but the color is slightly off of the decanter body's color.  In normal lighting the body and the stopper appear the very look same color.  Under bright shooting tent lights, the color variance shows.   Color matched shot glasses were blown into mold and contain straw marks indicating old age. The shots are older than the decanter, circa 1920 - 1930. The decanter has a distinct mid-century modern style but may be older.  Circa 1930 - 1960. Decanter measures 11' tall and the shot glasses are 2.5' tall. Wine glasses and covered comport shown in image 2 are available separately (click here to view). Beautiful 1930s blown glassware in Nutmeg brown.  Made by Morgantown (Palazzo stem pattern) or possibly by Duncan Miller  which had a pattern with stepped discs like this during the same period.  Both glass houses provided high quality elegant glassware. Set includes (1) large comport with lid and (2) wine glasses.  All were hand-blown with pontil marks on seats.  The comport is in excellent condition.  The wine glasses have some shallow light scratching on the inner sides of the bowls probably caused by rough cleaning over the years.  They are slight and did not show up in the images.  Stunning.  Love the art deco styling. The solid glass finial and stems were hand-tooled and applied to the bowls.  Substantial glass, the comport weighs 3 lbs.  It measures 9' tall, 8' at widest with a widest girth of 21½'.  The wine glasses were blown thinner than the comport so they are a slightly lighter color shade. The wine glasses measure 6' tall. Big, beautiful steel blue ball trumpet vase by Salviati Acid-etched on base 'Salviati 1997'. Also retains 'Made in Italy' sticker on the side. The Salviati family is synonymous with Italian Murano glass art.  According to the Salviati glass house...'In 1859, Antonio Salviati, a lawyer, in love with the mythical lagoon city, decided to revitalize the Venetian glass industry that was eclipsed by both English and Bohemian glass...' Read more about the Salviati glass company at their website http://www.salviati.com/us/story/index.html . This vase is almost 13 years old and is no longer in production.  This form is very scarce. It is in like-new condition with very light bottom-wear. Large and heavy vase made of triple-cased glass.  Inner layer is milk white, center layer is blue and outer layer is clear.  Layers combine to produce a light steel boy blue.  Perfect gift, filled with flowers for the discerning new mother of a bouncing baby boy..or girl.
