Shanghai-based designer Fiona Peng's Punk Pilgrim collection offers us another boldly modern take on Old China with the Beijing clutch. When Peng first laid eyes on the ornate traditional floral fabrics found in her Banna, Beijing and Sanya lines, she knew she had to use them on her bags and clutches—the look reminded her of Victorian wallpaper, only very Chinese. The Beijing clutch has a synthetic silk exterior and a 100 percent silk lining. The clutch is 5 inches tall and 11.5 inches wide (12.7 cm x 29.2 cm) and closes securely with two hidden magnets.

These exquisite circular pendants are hand carved from deep emerald green Southeast Asian jade. No two are exactly the same. The Bi (pronounced bee) is a symbol that has existed in Chinese culture for thousands of years. The Bi shape represents heaven and traditionally was worn by the very rich to protect them from evil spirits and help them maintain their wealth. Bi were common funerary items, placed on the deceased to ensure that evil would not enter into their bodies after death. The saying goes that the longer you wear a Bi pendant, the more it absorbs and neutralizes evil in your life. Should a Bi pendant ever break while on your body, then it has saved your life.

These leather-bound journals were designed and handcrafted exclusively for Mudan Boutique by Yan Feng, owner of Shanghai's popular Tree leather studio. The paper, made from bamboo leaves, is a product of southwestern China's Sichuan province, and the color of the pages is determined by the time of year the paper was pressed: more yellow if closer to winter, more green if closer to summer. Paper is thought to have been invented in 105 AD by a Chinese court official named Cai Lun. Bamboo paper, known as xuan paper, was introduced during the Tang Dynasty (AD 608-907) and was a favorite among painters and calligraphers because it is soft, smooth, absorbent and very durable. The notepad gets its name from the authentic Qing Dynasty (AD 1644–1912) coin that also serves as its fastener. Tong Qian (pronounced ch'ien) literally means "copper money."

The concept of Bagua, or the "Eight Trigrams," is applied in many aspects of Chinese culture: from Taoism and I Ching to martial arts and fengshui. The Bagua is rich with associations and meanings. Each section of the octagon represents different personality traits, family members, navigational directions and aspects of nature. The center, called taiji, also known as tai chi, encompasses the yin and the yang, two primal opposing but complementary forces found in all things in the universe. In traditional Chinese philosophy and medicine, the harmonious balance of yin and yang in the body is necessary for good health. Mudan's Bagua pendants, 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in diameter, come with a "floating" taiji in the center that can be rolled with your thumb or finger. Bagua pendants come on either red or brown strings.
