Description:

When I hop on the phone with Meredith Fisher, the emerging talent behind Wayf, a ladylike line of body skimming silk dresses and separates in flattering cuts, she admits that talking to me is a form of procrastination. You see it's midterm time at the University of Southern California, and this busy junior has a finance test to cram for—well that, and her line's runway debut at Fresh Faces in Fashion LA next week.

 Description:

When I tried to set up an interview with Mallyce Miller, the L.A.-based stylist and designer behind emerging womenswear line LAEKEN, she sent me an apologetic reply. It turns out that she had tonsillitis, her car had just broke down and she was busy working on a project with her intern. She was down but not out—and thought her bad luck would "fizzle by tomorrow."

Fortunately for Miller, good fortune in her professional life is not so scarce; LAEKEN was just named one of Gen Art's Fresh Faces in Fashion LA and her locally manufactured line is stocked in area boutiques like Curve, Switch and Kin...

 Description:

As effortless as a smart dress makes our morning routine, we're excited that after seasons of being carelessly tossed to the side, separates are finally back. While a kilted Marc Jacobs showed flouncy, romantic numbers on his Spring 2009 runway, there's no need to limit yourself to one shape or wait until April to hop on-board the emerging skirt trend. We say the time for change is now.

Below, ten of Gen Art's favorites for fall from a range of up and comers and some more established design talent. To make sure your look really hits the mark, take a cue from Jacobs and don't over think what you pair them with.

 Description:

We're not usually political, but when we recently spotted a set of eye-catching "Obama 08" Graffiti Bangles from Gen Art Styles accessories finalists Ken Leung and Dana Chin of BYLU (it's pronounced "blue"), we felt the need to share. Regardless of where your party allegiances lie, it's exciting to see impassioned emerging fashion designers get involved in the upcoming election—especially when the campaigning results look so good.

 Description:

You might be surprised that one of the coolest shows we spotted during New York Fashion Week wasn't found in the tents at Bryant Park. Or even on a catwalk for that matter. No, for this find we headed much farther downtown, to Soho's gallery hanahou, where fashion illustrator Sara Singh and emerging jewelry designer and creator of P.Y.T. Arlene Guerra have a joint exhibit of sculpture and jewelry called "Head Games Dress Candy" that completely stole our girlie girl hearts...

 Description:

While he's a graphic designer by trade, when Jason Nevikov launched an eponymous t-shirt line late last year, his goal was to emblazon his pieces with images that didn't look "too graphic designerly." The reason? "Understated is underrated," he says. "I guess the pervasiveness of graphic t-shirts made me feel like I wanted to make something that was still a designed printed tee, but could somehow side step the over-the-top nature of the printed shirt...sort of as if the print was more a part of the garment rather than a design applied to it."

 Description:

While the British are famous for their understatement, London-bred emerging designer Anne Leman is a young woman with a penchant for drama. Even her decision to enter the fashion arena reads like a major plot twist in a CW prime time soap—after studying science at New York University she yielded to the siren call of the catwalk and began taking classes at FIT. Attribute the brash career swap to the fact that she was American born—Berkeley, to be precise.
