The London-based "Isokon" group was at the center of the Modernism movement in pre-war Britain; their club, the Isobar, a favorite hang-out for artists and intellectuals. Isokon's head designers included Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer, the ex-Bauhaus refugees. The "Long Chair" was perhaps the most highly developed of all the plywood designs supplied to Isokon by Breuer. It's form recalls a reclining nude by Henry Moore (one of the regulars at the Isobar), while the patina on this example is every bit that of fine sculpture.

Verner Panton made the rocking chair VIPP in cooperation with PP Møbler in 1992. The cooperation was brought about by Hans J. Wegner who recommended Panton to drop by the workshop. He had an idea for a strange piece of furniture consisting exclusively of rings. PP Møbler was the right place, since the idea could be realised through the new technique of precompression, which the workshop had just begun to master.

PP 225 THE FLAG HALYARD CHAIR HANS J. WEGNER, 1950 In 2002, PP Møbler received the Danish Reader's Digest Classics Award for re-instigating the production of this easy chair. The chair is not merely a unique object in itself, but also remarkable compared to Hans J. Wegner's other designs, which are based predominantly on wood. With The Flag Halyard Chair, Wegner sends his regards to the early modernists such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer, and shows that he also masters designs in chrome steel pipes. Despite this gesture, the chair is still decidedly Wegner. The chair's expanses are made of plaited flag halyard and the longhaired sheepskin softens the industrial sharpness of the steel adding an air of comfort and cosiness .

The h-family grew out of my background as a sculptor. The thought of casting furniture in wood appealed to me. My aim was to create a clean, unbroken line and avoid joints and connecting details. Thus, most furniture in the h-family is pressure formed into one piece. I enjoy playing with the line and exploring the border between volume and void - the shape the line creates, two dimensionally and three dimensionally in the architectural space.
