Giles Giles Does It Again Giles Deacon's first jewellery collection had his fans clamouring for anything they could get their hands on - launched at a starry party (with Giles himself on the decks), in July, it's set to hit stores in September. "Make it graphic, make it fun," said Giles when describing his first attempt at jewellery - which has resulted in a collection of solar system-inspired black and white pieces, often fashioned into skulls, ring pulls, and safety pins. Fashion fun as only Giles can do.

Clogau Into The Valleys If what you mean is forever, there's no more stunning way to say it than with Clogau Gold's Am Byth eternity ring. The Bodelwyddan-based jeweller uses rare Welsh gold (much of which is rose-coloured due to the high copper content in the mountains from which it is mined), to create designs inspired by the ancient history, mythology and natural scenery of Wales; here, an 18-carat yellow gold band set with 33 brilliant cut diamonds is encircled by berries and vines rendered in a beautifully contrasting rose. £1,600; www.clogau.co.uk.

Barbie's Girls 15 January 2009, 10:10AM STYLE icon Barbie certainly knows her fashion - so it's hardly surprising to learn that she's backing Roksanda Ilincic and Danielle Scutt, two of London Fashion Week's most exciting design talents, this coming show season. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary plans that will see Barbie have her very own catwalk show in New York, the plastic beauty will sponsor thr shows of Ilincic and Scutt in the UK; and to say thank you both designers have created a special outfit, just for her. "I couldn't wait to dress Barbie," says queen of romance Ilincic. "She's such an iconic model and the perfect front row show guest." It's certainly quite an honour for the duo to have been singled out by her - just last week Alber Elbaz, himself one of the most powerful forces in fashion, noted that Barbie "is influencing the world because she is part of culture and life and fashion".

Couture Cakes 03 February 2009, 07:00AM The couture shows might be over but that doesn't mean you still can't get your fix of fashion frivolity. The Berkeley's seasonally-inspired Pret-A-Portea (a fashion take on the traditional afternoon tea), means that even if you can't make it to the shows, they can indeed come to you - and all in the shape of delectable pastries and dainty cakes. "Fashion and cakes have always been the perfect match for me," says The Berkeley's head pastry chef, Mourad Khiat. "We can count on our insider fashion contacts to brief us on the latest must-haves of the season. Of course I have my favourite designers but I could never reveal who they are!" So what makes something on the catwalk translate so well on to the cake stand? "Mostly, I look for vibrant colours and unusual designs and textures in the latest fashion collections," Khiat adds.

Haute Revision WITH the countdown on to the start of the Couture shows in Paris on January 26, Didier Grumbach - president of the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt à Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode (aka the Chambre Syndicale) - has been giving the press a fashion history lesson. "Couture is in fact not an industry, it is a savoir faire, a craft, and is a complement to ready-to-wear," he explains in an interview with the Taipei Times. "When haute couture was organised and structured the way it was in 1944, there was no ready-to-wear as we know it today. Everything was made for you. Creative ready-to-wear did not exist." "Today Chanel and Dior, the most mythical couture houses, are also at the same time among the biggest exporters of ready-to-wear, and without their ready-to-wear lines, their couture lines could not exist.

WHILE Sir Paul Smith is busy guest-editing French newspaper Liberation this week, it seems that Gareth Pugh has really, really hit the big time this season. The London designer whose debut show in Paris last season drew compliments to the effect that he may one day be our new Alexander McQueen, will guest edit Time Out for London Fashion Week - as well as appearing on its cover alongside Daphne Guinness, both wearing the black and white armour pieces from Pugh's spring/summer 2009 collection that Beyoncé recently chose to wear in her new Diva video. It's a coup for Gareth, who will show his first menswear-only show in Paris this week, as well as more good news for the London fashion scene which, despite the miserable economic conditions appears to be thriving with new sponsors coming on board to support some of our best emerging talents
