Alongside Charles and Ray Eames as well as George Nelson, Alexander Girard was one of the decisive figures in post-War American design. The focus of his broad oeuvre was on textile design, and a key source of inspiration for him was his passion for the popular art of South America, Asia and East Europe. The Wooden Dolls, which Girard created for his own home in Santa Fe and made himself, are likewise inspired by his own extensive collection of works of popular art. Half decorative element, half toy, the Wooden Dolls were originally intended only for personal use. Based on originals found in the Girard Estate held by the Vitra Design Museum, the partly joyful, partly grim-looking company of dolls is now coming out as a charming enhancement to any interior. Collection Vitra Design Museum.

Made up of two halves, Magnito Mini clicks together and pulls apart to reveal separate salt & pepper shakers. As a combined form, Magnito Mini is a spinning top that rolls around on a table top. Each half is labeled by an “S” or a “P” delineating their contents and has holes with different orbits, which keep the salt and pepper isolated in their containers.

This line of tables originated from the creativity of Patricia Urquiola combined with Kartell's capability and technological know how. The T-Table is the result of research into innovative surfaces to achieve new visual and tactile effects. The surface of the T-Table top alternates fullness and space to create an elegant and precious effect which is reminiscent of embroidery.

Designed by George Nelson. With a view to bringing modern design right into the American home, George Nelson designed a range of products offering a new and unconventional interpretation of such everyday items as lamps, wall clocks, and other domestic accessories. George Nelson's wall clocks typify the spirit of the early 1950s and, at the dawn of a new century, are still a refreshing alternative to more traditional timepieces. The models selected by the Vitra Design Museum were designed between 1948 and 1952 and some of them continued to be manufactured until the mid-1970s. Made of wood and metal, these re-editions mirror the original design so beloved of collectors right down to the smallest detail. Not only the dimensions of the clock's housing and its hands but also the way it has been constructed, finish and color are true to Nelson's original designs.

Almost no other animal enjoys such popularity as the elephant. Admired for its majestic size and loved for its proverbial good-humor, it is part of our everyday experience as a child's cuddly toy, a storybook character and a majestic creature. Charles and Ray Eames also succumbed to their charms and in 1945 designed a toy elephant made of plywood. However, it never made it into mass production. The Eames elephant is now available for the first time in a plastic version for those it was originally intended for: children.

Design Verner Panton, 1959. Shell with upholstery and seat cushion, brushed stainless steel base. Made in Germany by Vitra. In 1958 he returned to Denmark full of unconventional ideas... one of which evolved into the iconic Heart Cone Chair. Defying gravity, the cone was both futuristic and shocking... so much so that when it was exhibited in a shop window in New York City police had to order its removal due to the traffic chaos its presence created. A comfortable club chair for everyday use, Vitra has faithfully re-issued this classic in close collaboration with the Panton estate. The Heart Cone Chair takes its name from its heart-shaped silhouette. 35" h | 40.5" w | 24.5" d $3,430.00 + free shipping in the continental U.S. (usually ships in 3-4 days).

VITRA W.W. Stool Philippe Starck is best known for his erotic forms and his bizarre, often disingenuous public pronouncements. Starck's modern designs are unmistakable - saucy amoebic minimalism with and irreverent twist -- and revealing. A recurring motif in Starcks design vocabulary is the elongated horn shape, exemplified by the W.W. Stool (also known as 'standing aid'), designed in 1990 as part of a fantasy office environment for the film director Wim Wenders, and put into production by VITRA in 1992. The technique of hard casting allows the flowing organic form to beautifully capture the materials fluidity. Sand-blasted lacquered aluminum in blue-green finish.

Charles and Ray Eames liked to surround themselves with traditional craft objects from around the world, which they collected on their extensive travels. One of their favourite objects was a bird made of black painted wood that was produced in the Appalachian Mountains at the beginning of the 20th century. The figure accompanied them from the 1950s onwards and can be seen in many photographs of the Eames' living room. Based on the original artefact and in cooperation with the Eames Family, Vitra is now producing the first series of this figure.

VITRA Oson S Armchair Oson is a new family of office chairs. It reflects the latest technological developments and introduces a new, organic shape to the workplace. The chair automatically adjusts the backrest tension to accommodate the user's weight and sitting position. All Oson's functions are clear and intuitive - making it simple to adjust. In fact doing so is fun, as all the levers are soft to touch and easy to find. The outstanding elements are the aluminium mechanism beneath the seat and the organically shaped backrest frame, which holds the very flexible backrest and links it to the mechanics. Together, they control the synchronized movement of seat and back; the backrest slides up and down the frame, and offers perfect support in all positions. 32.25"- 39.25"H x 16"D x 21.25"W

My first reaction when I saw Alexander Girards Wooded Dolls: Those are modern day kachina dolls! My friend had a rather extensive collection of kachina dolls in her home and I remember how amazed I was with how each doll had such distinctive characteristics and personalities. Every doll had a purpose and told a tale. Alexander Girards Wooden Dolls have a very similar effect. The vibrant colors, the expressions, the symbolism, the details all come together to create little eccentric characters. And they are little! The dolls range in height from 6 to 12 inches.

Frank O. Gehry is one of today's most important architects. Gehry likes to use unusual materials for his architecture and furniture. With the series "Easy Edges", from 1972, he succeeded in lending such everyday materials as cardboard a new aesthetic dimension. Although they appear unbelievably simple "Easy Edges" are constructed with the architect's care as well as being very robust and stable. Approximately 60 layers of cardboard are held together by hidden screws with a fibreboard edging. Four models from the series - Side Chair, Wiggle Side Chair, Dining Table and Low Table Set - are now being produced by Vitra. Set of three nesting tables as shown. Edges available in your choice of untreated or lacquered white hardboard. 24.75" L | 17"w | 20" h
