This immaculate snowy linen coat is one of those rare Victorian garments that is sturdy and wearable. This amazing coat shows that good design is always in style. The unlined coat is fashioned from crisp white linen. Pair it with a linen skirt of the period and you will have a promenade outfit that will be the pride of your collection. Or wear the coat with pants and costume jewelry and you will stand out in any crowd. The bodice is cut with figure flattering princess line seams. I love the bias-bound scalloped edges on the skirt. The side seam ruching can be adjusted up or down with inside drawstring ties. The coat has a stand up collar and closes in front with the original brass ball buttons.

The "Lace" pattern of this jacket shows that Fortuny's inspiration often came from several sources. Here, Fortuny brilliantly melds blocks based on Islamic tiles with borders based on 17th century lace. The pattern is hand stenciled in many layers of subtly changing gold pigment, reproducing the Renaissance fresco effect. The ground cloth of teal silk velvet drapes beautifully. The jacket is totally lined with apricot silk faille. The jacket comes with an unattached matching belt. You can wear the jacket either belted or loose. The belt ends are finished with metallic bronze tassels.

The cape features a layer of black beaded tulle over a layer of black satin. The beading pattern sparkles with iridescent sequins, bronze metallic embroidery, and black bugle beads. The dense part of the pattern—over the shoulders and around the border—combines sequins in shades of lavender, turquoise, silver, and black on a ground of bugle beads. The pattern on the partially open areas is outlined with iridescent cut-steel beads. The cape has a square-cut velvet collar in the back only. The cutaway front is emphasized with a shaped yoke. The cape closes with snaps on one side of the yoke.
