The classic shape of this vase is a tall amphora. But we decided to add a stopper to the top. In our opinion, the stopper brings the vase to a whole new level. Sculptural, fun, and still classy with it's black and white color application. The vase can be displayed with or without the stopper. And the same goes for the stopper. But we think they look best together.

A Word From The Artist: Making the work is a process sensitive meditation. The hot process is about fluidity. Forming. Controlling the relationship of the interior and exterior of the skin. The fluid process is intuitive in the sense that it may require an instinctual reaction to the events. Experience. The cold process is slower providing more time to comb the surface. This process is analytical. Introspective. The objects feel like emotional microcosms of the process. I feel in tune if the work resonates quietly.

Carefully chosen materials and refined technique characterise my recent works towards a simplification of form through a process of manipulation and refinement. Chainsaw and custom-made tools carefully fashion the graceful contours, continually subtracting mass. Working process combines material behaviour with colour and texture. Oak bends a great deal, creating fluid lines in a haphazard game of chance. Sycamore is unpredictable often resulting in paper-thin vessels. Each piece is an individual, exciting form in its own right, thus making the decision between one wood and another an integral part of the creative process.
