Couture Cakes 03 February 2009, 07:00AM The couture shows might be over but that doesn't mean you still can't get your fix of fashion frivolity. The Berkeley's seasonally-inspired Pret-A-Portea (a fashion take on the traditional afternoon tea), means that even if you can't make it to the shows, they can indeed come to you - and all in the shape of delectable pastries and dainty cakes. "Fashion and cakes have always been the perfect match for me," says The Berkeley's head pastry chef, Mourad Khiat. "We can count on our insider fashion contacts to brief us on the latest must-haves of the season. Of course I have my favourite designers but I could never reveal who they are!" So what makes something on the catwalk translate so well on to the cake stand? "Mostly, I look for vibrant colours and unusual designs and textures in the latest fashion collections," Khiat adds.
