Elke has long had a passion for travel, which took her from her hometown in Germany to settle in South Africa many years ago. However, nothing prepared her for the amazing impact of India during her first visit in 2000. She was enthralled by the exotic designs, exuberant colours and cultural influences in their accessories, which soon became a favourite with friends back home. This was the start of her search for elegant and exquisite accessories for women, and her long-term relationship with India and other countries. WINTER RANGE: The range is inspired by the young men who participate in the Janj, a marriage party in the Pushtun tradition. The party serves as a prelude to Naksha or target shooting in some far remote Afghan mountain village. Colleen Eitzen is a graduate of the Durban Institute of Technology, where she currently lectures creative design. She loves clothing with strong architectural lines, texture, layers and fabric with movement. She is hugely inspired by the beautiful women of South Africa, both rural and city dressers. Colleen and her husband, Neil Roake, own the DDE in Durban, as well as The Space in Gateway, and are in partnership with The Space store at The Zone, in Rosebank. Johannesburg born Alexander Koutny's Summer Collection was entitled "The Fold of Time". Now based in New York, Alex used the metaphor of people moving through space and time as his design inspiration. Through black and white and the use of fabrics like leather, lame, silk gauze organza, silk georgette and black wool, Alex created intricate, convoluted and complex pieces. Using triangles, angles and pleats, the clothes on the models appear engineered, mechanical yet intensely feminine. They appear to be moving even when standing extremely still. This announced her future in the SA fashion industry by securing a coveted slot in SA Fashion Week. After a successful 2004, Kathrin Kidger established her label, Reine. It was only after winning the Smirnoff Red Fashion Awards 2004 however that she was able to focus her full attention on her label.
