The skirt has a shaped seam in the front and a side zipper opening. It is a fairly straight skirt with the fullness for walking provided by the shaping in the Skirt Front pieces. Any dress weight or bottom weight fabric will work just fine; something somewhat soft that will drape nicely. If you choose a fabric with a bold print – the shaped seam detail will disappear. A stunning red taffeta cocktail dress from the 1950s has so many lovely details. The color is a bit truer of a red than what is being portrayed. The fabric has that nice bit of sheen good taffeta has and it makes that girlish swish sound when you move. I love the detailed seaming through the bust and how it all points in towards the centre of the waist so the eye sees an even tinier waistline. The dress has a panel inset of cotton velvet in the exact same shade of red that runs through the bodice and all the way down the front of the skirt. The back is cut so the fullness seems to spring out form the small of the back. It has been photoed with an additional crinoline under it (not included) but does have a built inn underskirt so is very full on its own. I love this dress and so will the lucky girl who buys it!

Incredible vintage 1950s skirt suit by Rothmoor was sold by the Berg Style Shop in Huron, S. Dakota. (Dont ask me how it got to Boston!) This suit is exquisitely tailored, as all Rothmoor suits and coats are. It is fashioned from a tropical weight wool in a soft brown fleck tweed. The jacket is belted and buttons at the front with grey carved plastic buttons and bound buttonholes. Angled flapped pockets are found at the hips. The best thing about the jacket is the hidden button under the collar at the shoulder. You use them to button on the matching cape! The cape is seamed at the shoulders to match the seams of the jacket armhole so it drapes properly. Both the jacket and the cape are fully lined in brown rayon crepe. The straight skirt has a set-on waistband and side metal zipper. It has angled darts on the outside of the skirt front for a decorative detail. The skirt is unlined.
