The latest collection by one of my favourite new designers, Samantha Cole, is an equally a visual surrealist treat as her previous collection. Entitled “Warrior”, the new collection displays Cole’s mastery of blending fashion with art and sculpture, a talent that see’s her create some truly original silhouettes. What is particularly striking about Cole’s work though is her ability to craft unusual structured forms, which on paper shouldn’t translate to wearability, but in reality are figure flatteringly so.

A rare boomerang desk with a body in fiberglass and polyester featuring three drawers on the right and one hanging file drawer in the left, with two elongated cutouts on the back. This desk was designed by the French sculpture Maurice Calka for Leleu-Deshays in the late 1960’s and has the original signature to the bottom interior footwell. These shoes are part of a collection of artist-decorated Terry de Havilland wedges. The shoes are collectively called F*ck Me! Shoes . The collection was auctioned off 2 years ago to benefit the Chelsea Arts Club Trust, Trinity Hospice and Artists General Benevolent Institution in England. The shoes were all hand painted and beautifully decorated with a lot of attention to detail and the themes ranged from The Beatles, skulls, sex postures, insects, faces and cigarettes.

Silk dresses and wool tights in unexpected color combinations were the look at the H Fredriksson show last night. The Brooklyn-based indie designer (a Gen Art alum and favorite of the Scissor Sisters' Ana Matronic) mixed jewel tones like topaz and teal with rust and soft gray for one of the prettier takes on the current trend of thick knits with billowing shapes that I like to call "Depression-era chic." All of the models wore adorable black and gold round toe pumps and Mary Janes by Marcello Toshi, another Gen Art alum. I sat across from noted transsexual and NY nightlife queen Sophia Lamar, who I think would look lovely in the high-waisted mini. I would say more but...
