PP 225 THE FLAG HALYARD CHAIR
HANS J. WEGNER, 1950
In 2002, PP Møbler received the Danish Reader's Digest Classics Award for re-instigating the production of this easy chair.
The chair is not merely a unique object in itself, but also remarkable compared to Hans J. Wegner's other designs, which are based predominantly on wood.
With The Flag Halyard Chair, Wegner sends his regards to the early modernists such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer, and shows that he also masters designs in chrome steel pipes. Despite this gesture, the chair is still decidedly Wegner. The chair's expanses are made of plaited flag halyard and the longhaired sheepskin softens the industrial sharpness of the steel adding an air of comfort and cosiness .
