Samantha Pleet was born in Philadelphia in 1981, where she grew up with a natural attraction to the arts. At a young age Samantha explored music and acting but eventually became especially drawn to visual art. In 2000 Samantha Pleet moved to New York to attend Pratt Institute and study fine art, but in 2002 she made a decision to pursue a BFA in fashion design, which she completed in 2005. While attending Pratt, Samantha experienced different realms of the fashion industry in New York by doing internships at Harper's Bazaar and later at AsFour. After graduation in Spring of 2005, Samantha Pleet established her design studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn where she began to develop her own designs, which came out of observations of the world and experimentation with the materials of the trade. Over the next year and a half Samantha greatly developed her own style and sensibility, being especially influenced by extensive travels through Europe.
