Patricia Urquiola Furniture Design

Patricia Urquiola has an innate capacity to design objects with a strong connotation, which revolve around the upholstered families. A new look at the hammock style, presented at the Ideal House exhibition in Cologne; the ideal companion to the Smock armchair presented at last year’s Milan Furniture Show. It displays the same exploration of solids and voids, comfort and luxury, that distinguishes Urquiola’s work. This sophisticated, elegant sofa uses a light, stylised design centred around the draping over the ring-shaped armrests. The unusual feature of a full-length zip is for removing the cover and for joining different materials.

Designed both for outdoor and indoor use, this seat has a metal frame and can be converted from a small armchair into a chaise longue. In the designer’s words: “A vague creature resting in the sun or in a corner of the house with soft lazy movements”. Transparent, visually light in the outdoor version with threedimensional white or black cover that embraces the frame, “slipped” into a stainless steel slide. In the fabric version, cover is available in a single colour or in two colours (on the inner and outer sides) with same type of fabric, while the leather version features fabric on the inner side.
