Sunday I went to Saks because of their crazy sale - 40% plus another 50% if you use your Saks card! My fiance and I only went because he wants a tux, but the Armani style he's been eyeing wasn't on sale. What's a gal to do? From caterer to handbag design; it’s a logical transition, right? Well, for long-time fashion enthusiast turned caterer turned designer Martha Clifford, that is exactly how life evolved. But, Martha didn’t leap blindly. She started making handbags out of fabrics in her home-town of North Carolina initially for herself and then for friends and friends of friends. With the encouragement of her husband, Martha went to New York City to find a factory and the wheels began to turn. Finally, in fall 2007 m. Clifford Designs was born.

Dear Bagistas, It was a crazy week of flying, handbags, and fun. Now that I’m back from Florida and well rested, I wanted to catch up and share thoughts on the many previews I’ve attended over the past week. On Tuesday I had the pleasure of checking out the Spring-Summer 2009 collections from two of my favorite lines - Mary Norton and MCM. Mary was first at 9am. I love coming in to see her (we get to see each other about four times a year in NY, though I’m forever promising to come by her shop and headquarters in South Carolina.) She’s a true lady, always prim and proper, well quaffed, tailored skirt. The first time we met, Mary’s left arm was in a sling – never has any woman looked chicer in a sling. “Chic in a Sling” – that should be a trend piece :) and we can see how many gals can really pull it off. But, I digress - as usual.

Dear Bagistas, I’m so excited that The Starter Wife is coming back for another season. I think the show is amazing and I personally believe that the execs originally saw it as a one-time special. But Debra Messing is amazing in this show, as is the rest of the cast. Can’t wait to see what happens when it goes back on USA Networks this Friday. I do know that handbag designer Lauren Merkin has gotten in on the buzz behind this show by crafting the “Molly” clutch, named after Messing’s character on the show Molly Kagan. USA Networks and Debra Messing actually worked with Lauren Merkin to come up with the perfect shape – genius promotion for all!
