The large spheres make lovely wedding and housewarming gifts. The sphere is made from 30 individual pieces of washi paper which are folded into 30 separate units and then assembled into a sphere. A small gold crane hangs from a black silk thread in the center of the ornament. This model was invented by David Mitchell and is called "the Electra 30".

One of my favorite Northern California artists makes these hearts exclusively for NapaStyle in her shop. She reclaims the metal rings used to hold wine barrels together; then she forms them by hand into these beautiful ornaments. This hand built porcelain bird is designed to grace your tree, but others like him have been known maintain residence in the same home year round. Made of unglazed porcelain with a light wash of cobalt, it hangs from a white ribbon that extends all the way through the body of the bird. The artist uses large moist sheets of porcelain to form one-of-a-kind birds. Hand construction is done much like sewing: shapes are cut out and pieced together, creating dimension from flat surfaces. When finished, the porcelain is fired to over 2300 degrees, making your ornament extremely durable. These delightful bird ornaments will make you smile. Each is hand built; all are similar.
