MyMimi ABC Animal Magnets Now we know that you're smarter than you look - you babies with your drooling and your babbling and your drunken stagger of a walk. It's a very convincing front that you most certainly should use to your advantage. Next time the adults leave the room, use these ABC magnets to leave them a message on the refrigerator door. When they return to the kitchen and yelp with surprise, just point at the dog and continue babbling.

When author Sara OLeary wrote and introduced us to her book When You Were Small we were instantly smitten not only by her simple imaginative story but also by the beautiful illustrations of Julie Morstad. Its a bedtime story told by a father to his son about when the little boy was small, not younger but quite literally smaller. Named one of the best books of 2006 by the Association of Booksellers for Children, were pleased to see this wonderful book begin to garner well-deserved recognition. You can learn more about the author, illustrator and story at its very own web site. When You were Small was published by a small independent press, Simply Read Books in 2006. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

The Chick Chair is made of baltic birch plywood, which is strong, lightweight, and stable. Low emission glues keep off gassing to a bare minimum as compared to MDF, particleboard, or other engineered materials. Water based interior wall paints are used for all colors options and finished in traditional shellac, which creates a natural, durable, water-proof finish that can be wiped clean easily. Shellac is a time-tested wood finishing material that is made from the cocoons of a small beetle dissolved in alcohol. This makes it safe enough for Junior to put in his mouth and chew on if he likes. You should also know that all of the chairs edges have been rounded for safety.

Cupcake Handbag, Strawberry Frosting Attempting to hide 'undesirable' food at the dinner table was a fine art form when we were kids. You could always hide a few beans under the mashed potatoes or wrap a couple carrots in your napkin for disposal, but the cook usually busted us. Now had we been able to disguise our veggies in a lovely little cupcake handbag we might have made it out of the kitchen door. (Please note that the management does not recommend this item for food storage!) A word to the adults: From the delicious imagination of Amy Gaines at Purl, were serving up sugary sweet cupcake handbags. Created from Amys original design, each bag is individually hand crocheted with a chocolate base and strawberry frosting. Untie the drawstring handles and theres plenty of room for your little one to store all manner of good stuff. Each drawstring is capped with a lovely bead and as such we recommend this item for ages 3 and up. Wash on gentle and low tumble dry.

The Black Apple Paper Dolls Artist Emily Martin updates this very old craft with groovy retro prints, combat boots and a fuzzy kitty hat. These three lovelies, Charlotte, Gretchen and Stella, come permanently dressed in your basic under garments, knee-high stockings and patent leather shoes. The dress-up fun comes from the interchangeable and oh-so-stylish wardrobe of 3 dresses, 2 play outfits, 1 pirate outfit, 1 kitty hat, 2 pairs of boots and 1 striped scarf. The little crafter who tackles this project needs to be old enough to safely handle scissors and do some relatively fine cutting. The dolls clothing all come with the standard fold-over tabs, but you can all play pin-up securing the dolls and clothing to a bulletin board (as pictured), or, with the aid of an adult, magnetic strips can be adhered verso and presto! the fridge door becomes a runway.

A Squid Named Cloud, Pendant Necklace A squid named Cloud. Far from being a giant of the deep, our sea-faring friend is a distant cousin to those monstrous cephalopods and measures in a diminutive one inch tall. A word to the adults: We are amazed not only by the skill and talent of Toronto based glass artist Izik Levy, but also by the teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy scale in which he works. The word genki literally means energy or wellness in Japanese. A genki person is one who has lots of energy and is very cheerful. Catch a glimpse of someone traipsing along in a Genki Hat, and itll make perfect sense. Genki Hats (the dynamic duo of Lindze Merritt and Alexi Smith along with their crew) are handmade in Atlanta, Georgia with a sense of humor in every hand-stitched detail. We love this kitty with it's perpetually surprised eyes, comfy earflaps and perky little whisers.

This is a great project to do with one of the favorite adults in your life. And you my friend need to be at least eight, because (and trust me on this one) kindergarteners and scissors don't mix...just ask my sister who, after butchering her dolls' hair, took pinking shears to her own the day before class pictures. So grab an older sibling, a parent, a babysitter, or a crafty aunt or uncle and make an amazing little machine with nothing more than paper and glue. A word to the adults: Automata or mechanical toys have an amazing history dating back to the 15th century. Paper automata are a more recent invention, and one that captured the fancy of a graphic designer who was inspired to create models of her own.

Were big fans of Canadian artist Steve Macks fantastic drawings reminiscent of the 1950s and 60s golden age of illustration. So when we heard he was creating an online alphabet book we sat up and paid attention. Every week for 26 weeks Steve posted another letter on his blog Spot Illustration. When he reached Z, much to our delight, he self-published the alphabet compendium. This book is the perfect pal for any kid learning to master their letters.
