This late 1940's dress in black moiré-patterned faille fabric is perfectly pretty from the front, with flattering princess seaming, a wide neckline, slit cap sleeves and a full skirt. The real excitement however, is located on the back of the dress: an adorable, big ivory satin bow at the waist, with matching satin flounces to the hem. Hidden behind the bow is a center back metal zipper. The dress is unlined and shown here without a crinoline, although it could be worn with one as well. Made of a stiffly textured cotton fabric often referred to as barkcloth, this late 1960's pleated mini dress is styled like a Hawaiian mumu without the length. The amazing print fabric has black and gold dragons on a bright red background, and the reverse, red and gold dragons on a black background. The basic shape of the dress is rectangular, as if a large piece of pleated fabric was folded in half and then stitched up the sides from the hem almost to the top, creating the sleeves, and a hole cut in the center for the head. The neck opening is elasticized, and the original elastic has been replaced. The dress is unlined and in excellent to mint condition; the fabulous fabric is crisp and feels like it has never been worn. Bust: 36" max. Hip: 38" max. The olive and purple silk of this late 30's or very early 40's dress has a print of leaping deer and abstract flowers. The fabric is quite fine, a lightweight silk, with a feel almost like lingerie. The front and the back of the dress are each decorated with small bows. In front, a bow ties the "keyhole" opening closed, gathering the fabric below the v-neckline. In back, the fabric across the hips is softly gathered into the bow, creating a modified "bustle" effect. The waist seam comes to a point in the center front and another point above the bow in the back. The long sleeves have puffed shoulders, but no shoulder pads, and snaps at the wrists.
