One of the better examples of 60s nostalghia for the 20s--flappers, fitzgerald, clara bow, jazz babies--& all that. Preceding by less than a decade the early 70s fascination for all things 30s, then 40s, then 50s--whereto & wherefrom we now reference & re-reference, like a trompe l'oeill painting of a painting of a painting of a painting..... Where will it all stop? I wonder about this sometimes, especially as we are running out of late 20C decades. Perhaps not as sexy as what would accompany the soon-to-be-then's Ossies, tho certainly a better evocation of Twiggy & her era would be difficult to find.

"The guys behind those popular Volatile flip flops will be in town Friday (May 2) showing off a design they made with Jazzfest in mind: the Jazzy. It's not the first time Volatile has done a shoe with a local tie-in. The California-based company donates $1 for every pair sold from its Fleur de Lis collection to the New Orleans Habitat for Humanity. The Fleur de Lis flip flop, unveiled last year, has been a hot seller on Zappos.com, and it literally flew off local shelves. One store in Baton Rouge reportedly sold close to 200 pair in less then four hours. Brian Lovely, the company's designer, and his brother, Michael Lovely, who heads sales for the family-owned business, will be meeting customers on Friday (May 2) from 1 to 3 p.m. at Little Miss Muffin, 766 Harrison Ave., and from 4 to 6 p.m. at Shoe Fly Pie, 5200 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie."

I spent the day down in the Quarter for the 25th Annual French Quarter Festival. You really couldnt ask for better weather for a day in New Orleans. I had a great time listening to good music, eating the best food in the world and meeting more incredible artists. I had a chance to chat with Bryant Beverly as he painted on the perimeter of Jackson Square. Bryant really captures the rhythm of the city and its unique blend of music and culture. Inspired by a Jazz band in NY, Koichiro Tokumochi utilized his skills in Yukiyoe (Traditional Japanese art prints) and created a series of musicians sculptures with thin lines of iron wires.
