Emiko Oki designs some of the most clever products! Recently, I reviewed the pint glass that she created, and this product is of a similar theme. Its called Trophy Tableware because Emiko takes the coffee pot, bowl, cup, saucer, and so on, and creates a groove in the ceramics with which the user can stack the pieces to make a grand trophy. I find it to be similar to the pint glass in that the implied silhouette of the piece makes the piece. Everything is left simple and unadorned. I must admit I was daydreaming of what this piece might look like with some sort of baroque applied design, but its simplicity is probably its strength as well.

Sometimes I wonder how its possible that Im able to feature two lung ashtrays in such a short period of time. The first lung ashtray I saw was by an extremely adept Italian design firm called industreal with their smoke like a chimney ashtray. Now, here I am with a lung ashtray by Finding Cheska. Im not sure what my obsession with lung ashtrays is, but I am a smoker in my mid-thirties with a family. I really only have maybe one a day, but cigarettes still linger in my consciousness.

Bisazza: Hayon Pixel-Ballet The Bisazza installation created for the Salone is meant to explore the possibilities of mixing art forms with industrial applications. The concept is to present other than the product itself, but instead, the possibilities of the product. In this case, it is treated as a medium for creation. The elements that make up this large-scale installation are part of my personal cosmology, where intuition alters reality creating a scenario far from conventional. The tables rescue elements from car engines contrasted with chic marble tops. The main piece is a butler presenting trays of new Bisazza elements. Plates will recreate possible faces for the face-less butler using mosaic-graphics. A new typology of vases emerges from the combination of ceramic and mosaic. The entire effect is that of an encounter with my world and dreams.
