I don't know if you've ever spent a winter in Maine, but believe me when I tell you to avoid it at all costs. The snow piles high, the temperature drops low, and going outside becomes an almost painful task. I loved Bates College ninety-five percent of the time - its flourishing spring, our lobster bake traditions, and the slow, vibrant transformation of the foliage each autumn - but when January hit, and I had to walk across campus with my teeth chattering, I'd often wonder why I hadn't applied to UCLA. I only wish I'd had this cozy wool-blend coat, in the college's signature garnet shade trimmed with black accents, to keep me company on those late-night walks home. With a detachable hood, toggle button and zipper closure, dual front pockets, and a full lining, this winter warrior would surely have kept my love for my alma mater running 24/7, twelve months a year. Now that I actually live in California, I'll keep this coat at the ready, waiting for the few days a year that it's necessary.
