Emiko Oki designs some of the most clever products! Recently, I reviewed the pint glass that she created, and this product is of a similar theme. Its called Trophy Tableware because Emiko takes the coffee pot, bowl, cup, saucer, and so on, and creates a groove in the ceramics with which the user can stack the pieces to make a grand trophy. I find it to be similar to the pint glass in that the implied silhouette of the piece makes the piece. Everything is left simple and unadorned. I must admit I was daydreaming of what this piece might look like with some sort of baroque applied design, but its simplicity is probably its strength as well.

An in-house designer at Hakusan Toki, Saga Pref. in Japan, Yasuki Sakamoto has produced this mug by picking up the right stone from ocean by himself. Because of natural material, there are few rocks which are curved a right hole for joint without any cracks. Please note NO dishwasher and NO microwave.

There is considerable variation between pieces of the same color - some of the blacks look like a beautiful navy or deep purple. Brush/wash strokes are visible. Colors change a bit over time. shapes: All of the shapes are also original to the beginning (the only thing that has changed over time are the colors). The production has run in the same family for 4 generations - these are made by the last family in Venice still to be doing this type of work.
