Super smart (porcelain) Paper Plates so you can have the summer feel without the waste. "I shredded actual paper plates, which previously where used to mold the plates, and then combined the paper pulp with porcelain slip to create my own unique batch of environmentally sound paperclay. When paperclay is fired, some of the paper pulp burns away leaving a lightweight yet strong ceramic structure behind. This allows the porcelain-paperclay paper plates to be nearly as light as the actual paper plates. Also, to ensure everyday porcelain wear and tear, each of the plates are glazed on both sides."

Handmade by English ceramic designer Polly George in rural Kent. No two pieces are the same and unique differences are part of their charm. All products are designed and handcrafted by Polly George in her country workshop in the picturesque Kent village of Shipbourne. Using carefully sourced materials, the products are slip cast. The pure and simple white shapes, which are Polly's trademark, are then individually stamped or alternatively decorated with bows, butterflies and roses, all applied by hand. Once fired in the pottery studio, the items are hand-dipped giving each piece its own individual appeal.

Influenced by the energy of Early American cobalt decoration, owners Priscilla Palmer and Jim Leavitt founded Emerson Creek Pottery in 1977. Priscilla developed the unique technique of applying natural pigments to an absorbent glaze with a Japanese Sumi-e brush. The spontaneity of the brush stroke, combined with the accuracy of design yields our distinctively recognizable style. Priscilla's deep love of the natural world provides a multitude of organic designs for all of Emerson Creek's pottery. Our ceramic pottery has been featured at Monticello, Mt. Vernon and the Smithsonian Institute, as well as in fine homes across America. We have had the pleasure of designing customized pottery patterns for numerous clubs and organizations.

Windy Mesa Pottery Horse Hair Pottery by Artist Mary F. Holmes Horse hair pottery is created by applying layers of ultra refined clay, called terra sigilata, to the surface of a pot then polishing that surface by hand until satin smooth. Once dry the pot is fired to 1700 degrees, cooled slightly, then pulled HOT from the kiln and horse hair and feathers are applied to the 1000 degree surface. The horse hair and feathers carbonize into the white surface creating beautiful abstract patterns. Once cooled the pot is cleaned and sealed with wax, which also brings up the satin sheen. Each pot is signed by the Artist.

"I use a combination of slip casting and hand building techniques to create forms with many components, often recreating objects and placing them out of context. For example, I frequently use a tap as a mug handle or a teapot lid. Their surfaces make reference to utilitarian wares from industrial ceramic history, including mocha ware, Cornish ware and blue and white porcelain. Floral transfers and metallic lustres are the finishing touches to create eclectic pieces that are precious and collectable yet ordinary and familiar." Prices on request.

Art Glass & Hand Blown Glass - Ceramics, Unique Handcrafted Artisan Jewelry - Welcome to the Red Elephant Galleryan online gallery featuring contemporary works by American artists and craftsmen. After many years of craft shows and open studios and discussions on how to justify the time (and money) spent doing it, the Red Elephant Gallery was born in the spring of 2004. Why the Red Elephant you say? Well, it all started on a spring afternoon in Santa Fe in 2001. After spending the day searching for treasures on the mountain road leading to Taos, we were discussing the days adventures over a glass of wine and watching these great elephant sculptures out of the hotel window. They were huge, and their heads were on pivots so that when the wind caught their ears their heads went up and down as if they were running across the fields. And it was windy!
