The Swiss Army cyclists were introduced in 1891, amid considerable opposition from the cavalry. They eventually became a backbone of the Swiss defense because they were swifter and more discreet than infantry or motorized units and did not need gas. The Swiss Army bike became, like the Swiss Army knife, the stuff of legend, and the single-gear model used from 1905 until 1993 is now a collector's item. The serial number reads 55122.

The 1960's Raligh Carrier was tremendously strengthened at the vital parts, and built with the sympathetic appreciation that nine times out of ten it had got to withstand the irresponsible handling of the errand boy, these tradesmen's carrier were everything that could be desired. Translate this into terms of goods delivered with unfailing punctuality, and freedom from repair bills, and it was readily apparent why it was considered the Raleigh for all daily rounds.
