Afro Celotto "Riscontro" Renowned glass master Afro Celotto creates artworks that blend centuries-old methods with a bold, contemporary vision. To create this piece's vibrant, swirling design, he twists together canes of colored glass, then slices and fuses them to create a grid pattern. Next, he blows and shapes the vessel's asymmetrical shape by hand, and etches deep grooves, or inciso, into portions of the surface with a diamond wheel. Hand-Blown Green Trail Tear Vase: Earth Item # 33.342.0.G This stunning handblown sculptoral vase is something to behold. While we've tried, the precise textures and colors of this piece are difficult to capture in a photograph. This piece is laid with 22 karat gold or fine leaf silver, which creates a subtle and unusual designs ("trails") within the glass. The creative process begins with a piece of molten glass attached to a long metal blowpipe, which is then blown into a bubble. Layers of molten glass are then added to shape each piece into its final shape, with colored glass applied for texture and designs, making each piece one-of-a-kind. Since graduating from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in architecture, Casey has traveled through Seattle, Tennessee, North Carolina, and New York studying and working at craft schools. These schools have included Pilchuck, Appalachian Center for Crafts, Penland, Ur-banGlass and the Studio at Corning. In the Fall of 2002, Hyland Glass, LLC was established.
