MARS-1 invites the viewer to use their own imagination to develop storylines from his paintings. MARS-1 focuses on bringing intangible realms into existence. He explores what he describes as "the sixth sense, or extra-sensory perception and levels of reality," filtered out by the mind in modern society. He grasps these abstract qualities of existence through his ethereal landscapes. "With so much that we don't understand, it's easy to put blinders on and have a narrow view of what we perceive instead of keeping the mind open." Expressing these thoughts onto his wood panel surface, MARS-1 creates a mysterious, multi-dimensional realm with both familiar and unfamiliar spaces to explore. To heighten this awareness for the viewer.

Colin has been a professional Freelance Illustrator and Gallery Artist since his graduation from The Maryland Institute College of Art in the Spring of 1995. His work has received honors from Print's Regional Design Annual, The Society of Publication Design, Communication Arts Illustration Annual, American Illustration, and Society of Illustrators Los Angeles. Some of his Freelance Illustration clients include: American Airlines, The American Medical Association, Audubon, Better Homes and Gardens, Converse, Fast Company, Newsweek, Time Inc., and U.S. News and World Report. He has recently been a part of gallery shows in Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, Salt Lake City, and New Jersey. Colin enjoys collecting art and toys and is also a huge fan of both music and film. He lives and works in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
