Fringe Fashion > Glittery Geometric Fashions Super short, glittery, silver, and black geometric dresses rocked the Paris runway at the Balmain RTW Fall 2009 show. The sequined minis had futuristic details such as triangular shoulders, capped sleeves and peaks placed just at the hipbone. Dresses were sleeveless and full-length; in a few cases, a single arm was covered in sparkly silver material, like a handless opera glove. The collection also included many 1980’s inspired pieces such as harem pants, a one-shouldered electric blue micro dress and the disco music soundtrack that set the scene. As part his Autumn/Winter collection for 2008-09, Gaultier incorporated cages into coats, capes, dresses, skirts and even the feature bride wore a spectacular white and silver cage veil held on with elaborate helmet-like headgear. “I have no intention to seriously put women in cages. My models are birds of paradise. They can remove the cages and fly,” Gaultier said On a practical note, I wonder what happens when one sits in such a dress.

It seems that illustrators are going mad for watercolors these days. These lovely, enigmatic black-and-white drawings and watercolor illustrations are made by Swedish fashion illustrator Cassandra Rhodin. I really dig the 1920s style with a good twist of gloom--or perhaps it’s just the black and white silent movie vibe--that these characters seem to evoke.
