"Living landscapes" was a major theme in 1960's design. Verner Panton, who was constantly searching for new ideas for the home, made a variety of especially interesting and original contributions to this theme, championing "more comfort, more of an experience, and more color". His Living Tower uses all three dimensions of a room. The organically shaped sculptural piece can be used at four different levels. Panton believed that it is important to seek harmony between people and their surroundings... the living tower fosters communication and interaction. Vitra originally produced this piece in very limited numbers in 1969, and in an amazing display of inspiration, does so once again.

In viewing Blu Dot's new 2008 collection I realize now that goodness, did my apartment need the Blu Dot One Night Stand Sleeper this week! I had company visiting which meant five folks packed into 500 square feet. It was a challenge, let me tell ya. Thank goodness we had piles of bedding and pillows stashed away to make a few spots on the floor, but it would have been much more comfortable sleeping on a fold out couch. If only we had had that option.

The Sitscape is a seating zone with a length of six meters. The form transforms the usual use of a couch. The design is based on specific seating positions and smooth transformations between them. Based on the preferred relaxing positions of the client we generated six basic positions and formed a perfect fit for them in the Sitscape. The Sitscape is a customized mass product that can fulfil different demands and forms with the same structural principle. The main structural elements are the sections, which are digitally cut out of laminated wood. The connecting structure is a steel and aluminium construction, which is minimally visible. The prototype will be finalized with white leather upholstery, laminated wood with white finish for the sections and polished aluminium connections.

SKiN is the new sofa designed by Jean Nouvel which will be available from January 2008 by Molteni & C. Light and compact the SKiN sofa definitely looks like a sculpture, but its design is also interesting with the innovative technical ideas such as the supporting structure in tubular pretensioned steel which holds another structural element - the cover in double-sided leather with its self-modelling geometric incisions.

We re-upholstered the sofa so that imprinted on it, like a memory, are all the imagined stories of its life so far. The surface of the sofa is essential to the telling of the stories. To read the stories the sofa has to be explored and interacted with, lifting cushions to reveal tales and listening to sounds coming from deep within, which unravel the intimate and personal secrets of its past.
