The tradition of felted wool rugs originated in Iran in the Neolithic Age. It spanned the mountainous regions from Turkey to Mongolia where tribal nomads lived in felt-covered tents. The technique in Iran was practically extinct when Melina and Dodd Raissnia traveled to Iran together in search of felt makers.
