Felt Felted Wool

Needle Felted Animals All felted animals are made from 100 percent wool. They all have wire armatures. Needle felting does not entail sewing or the use of patterns. It is similar to clay sculpture with carded wool used as the medium. The wool is sculpted with long fine barbed needles. Each needle felted animal is one of a kind though the same animal of course can be created again each one is always different.

They are now using the same ancient technique to create felt rugs in Iran based on contemporary designs by Melina. For a look at the process watch our 15-minute film. You can also read an essay on the subject by Melina Raissnia for Turkotek.com. Peace Industry: Husband and wife team Melina and Dodd Raissnia are the principals and founders of Peace Industry.
