Brooklyn Novelty is the brainchild of local Greenpoint area artists, Derick Holt & Milton Carter. The concept of this tote was brought to light in early 2008 - with the idea as a brand that would capture the spirit of the neighborhoods where they spent the last decade experiencing life. The map has been printed on a limited run of custom-made tote bags. And for $20.00 the tote is yours.

"I´ve been obsessed lately about fascinators and flapper hats. You know, those artistic looking brooch-type-fabric-thingies people wear on their heads to parties. Apparently it is a trendy thing to rave about since StyleBubble writes about this as well. Thelma Design has inspired me to start doing my own." OutsaPop

"I rarely see a fashionable piece (that is probably designed only to be in magazine editorials), work in a real life wardrobe. StyleBubble aka Susie Bubble seems to pull anything off! In March she was obsessed about these SS08 Acne and Comme Des Garcons cage-dresses and finally decided to go to Etsy Alchemy to get her own. I love the WWW for this sort of international connection! You´re able to send an open request on Etsy Alchemy on items that you´d like to have custom-made. Crafters look you up according to their field of expertise. The customer met her designer and Angie Montreal (IheartNorwegianWood.etsy.com) ended up making Susie her cage-dress. I think it turned out fantastic. Read the full story from the dress inspiration to making-of and to pictures of the finished dress. And in case you have not read Susie´s blog, I recommend starting from the DIY expert section." "Downstairs Studio is a Canadian company that draws inspiration from the everyday things around us. They also share my liking to add humor to their products. These pilo pilos are designed to be worn as rings so when you lean your face on your hand it will have someplace soft to rest. How practical and comfy is that! The perfect gift for a snoozing student."

I spent the day down in the Quarter for the 25th Annual French Quarter Festival. You really couldnt ask for better weather for a day in New Orleans. I had a great time listening to good music, eating the best food in the world and meeting more incredible artists. I had a chance to chat with Bryant Beverly as he painted on the perimeter of Jackson Square. Bryant really captures the rhythm of the city and its unique blend of music and culture. Stay tuned for an in-depth interview with him in our upcoming New Orleans issue of DIY City Mag.

Lady J Jewelry Designs launches a new line, Sweet Leaf. It features geometric patterning, rain forest and nature motifs using sparkly tourmaline, genuine leather, and real porcupine quills. The look continues to highlight Jessicas powerful style, but also has a delicate, elegant appeal. The pieces form a tight collection with use of the intertwining leaf motifs, red leather, and genuine quills. The ROAR! Earrings are a very dramatic way to make a powerful statement.
