The Flensted Airplane Mobiles just conjured up some major childhood memories. The airplanes amongst a bright blue sky reminds me of lazy summer days, playing in the sprinklers with a slip ‘n slide on the side, eating popsicles, smelling the freshly cut neighbor’s lawn, and listening to the recreational planes up above from the local mini airport. Now, whenever I hear an airplane above me on a bright summer day, I think “Whoa! It is summer! Where is the closest slip ‘n slide?!” But, lo. It is only February and we have a few months ahead of us before Summer takes over.

Almost no other animal enjoys such popularity as the elephant. Admired for its majestic size and loved for its proverbial good-humor, it is part of our everyday experience as a child's cuddly toy, a storybook character and a majestic creature. Charles and Ray Eames also succumbed to their charms and in 1945 designed a toy elephant made of plywood. However, it never made it into mass production. The Eames elephant is now available for the first time in a plastic version for those it was originally intended for: children.

I just recently traveled through Morocco and was dumbfounded by the array of colors, textiles, and details the artisans exhibited in their work. I saw a number of poofs while there and thought, “This is brilliant! It is decorative and functional, yet totally fun and different…if only I had more space to get one home.” Well, zid zid brought my dreams to life plus they added more of a contemporary edge to their poofs which is just what I wanted.

Do you remember the frustration of being a very-youngster and climbing into a chair, only to find your feet swinging inches off the ground? There is something special about Flensted mobiles. I am not sure if my enthusiasm for them originates from the copious design options, or the bright colors, or the tranquility of the movement, or the delicate balancing act, or maybe the fact that they add movement to a room that typically can be very static. The new TwistTogether Lamps by the TwistTogether Company appears to me to be a modern day version of a Lite Brite, Rubik’s Cube, and Mondrian painting all mixed together to form a very clever and distinctive lamp. I appreciate that these can be kid friendly, but I think it is just as significant that these are adult friendly too! I particularly enjoy the Chocolate Set with its rich classic, 50’s-ish yet modern vibe. If I was a child and my parents deprived me of the candy consuming luxury, I would plead with my mom/pop to get me an OFFI Kapsule Chair instead.
