The search to find a balance between the decorated surface and the pot's form is a puzzle, with an elusive solution, that sustains my interest. I'm prompted to design the surface spontaneously; to map my experiences and draw from my inspirations. My work forms a bridge between two-dimensional media and the sculptural aspects of pots. An etched line, a calligraphic brushstroke and the movement and pattern of a written language influence the surface. Growth and motion are represented by universal images of birds and plants.

The traditional Chulucanas style, passed down through generations, uses natural glazes and kiln-firing with leaves from the mango tree to produce the deep rusty brown-black shade, which contrasts beautifully with rich, natural cream. Each is a striking piece of global culture. Each piece of pottery is unique, and will measure approximately 10.25" dia and 6" T (26 x 15.2 cm). Because Chulucanas pots are fired at a low heat, they do not hold water. Dyes are all-natural; each piece is handmade and signed by the artisan, and fair-trade imported from Chulucanas, Peru.
