I have to confess upfront that this dress, 50's-inspired design aside, has nothing to do with Tennessee Williams' famous play. I just like the way the name sounds. "A Dress Named Desire" - has a certain ring, doesn't it? And why not christen this dress in the name of yearning? After all, that is exactly the feeling which boiled through my veins the minute I espied this gorgeous Betty Page frock. It's glistening, checkered taffeta and classically beautiful silhouette stole my heart and wouldn't give it back no matter how much I begged. Admiring this dress, a million scenes sprang to mind - It's full skirt pooled out as I sat, lost in a novel, in front of a warm, radiating wood stove. It's patent belt, notched collar, and double breasted front making me the personification of elegance as I sipped a glass of Chianti at a fancy holiday party. My eyes downcast, my stomach butterflies, as a love interest gently ran his fingertips up and down the length of my arm left bare by the cuffed 3/4-length sleeves. Everything glamorous, everything glowing - that's what a girl's world would become when she was embraced and graced by this garment. Mmm. I wanted this dress - wanted to wear it out somewhere, anywhere, with velvet peep toes, back seamed stockings, and dainty black gloves. I'm not a girl to let good-looking things pass me by, and this dress? Well, it's no exception. By Bettie Page. -Hannah, Fashion Writer

Instead of writing fancy comments, i will probably just post these [until, of course, the need for an irrepressible comment comes into my head, which it may].

[i think i have forgotten my chain of numbers, sorry.] i dunno, people dont seem to like this one. Maybe it's cos only the early ballots are in. Maybe it's the crinoline? The soda cans? The somewhat strange shaping of the leather? [i think it's leather.] i dunno, i really like it.

I cant remember which doyenne said "B for Bill Gibb" & thereby gave him his minor signature, but one can read it in his long overdue & not long enough fashion bio, available on Amazon or Alibris or ABEBooks, preferably from a used bookdealer. However, I do know that this is one of the nicest examples incorporating that trademark that I have yet seen [dig those sleeves, dig that cut, dig that gathering, that trim]--& oh, how I wish it were not eight hundred bucks. For one whose blood runs richer than does mine, sadly.

Not really, & usually I have a lot to say, often even effusively--for cause, too--but today has not been such a hot one. For anyone whose read any of my "about me" sorta pages, saying "the drummer compleatly lost it" should suffice. I was to start selling my vintage collection [no more space & it's about as good as this, as good as it gets, just so i can recycle & re-get, if that makes sense] but, apparently, I took too much attention away from him. Now I've taken it all away. Ah, well. Persons out there can relate thru the tears, methinks.

The International Herald Tribune here [hosting this slideshow] considers Mr Gibb [RIP, like @least half of half of anyone who was anyone interesting before anyone really knew about--] a Forgotten Hero. Not hardly. He's my favorite, anyway & has been for years. I only wish I were old enough to have at least seen, if not been able to afford, his stuff--when. Long time gone now. PS. These are good, there are better. I'll keep looking.
