Absolutely beautiful, museum-quality vintage 1930's evening gown by the legendary Liberty and Co, London. A rare treat in stunning condition.
Soft black velvet gown with rounded neckline, long sleeves and fitted cuffs which have tiny worked buttons and loops to narrow the fit if necessary. The bodice falls in delicate folds to the waist, front and back.
The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in the early 1920's fuelled the art deco period's taste for Egyptian inspired design, and this is reflected in the exquisite gold thread smocking which decorates the neckline, cuffs and waist of this fantastic gown.
Under the smocked waist panel, the skirt flares gently to the floor, and is finished with an elegant scalloped hemline.
Poppers at the left shoulder and poppers/hook and eye fastening opening at the left side. The Liberty and Co label is inside at the waist.
