My primary material is mild steel. I use solid stock and in recent years have added gas pipe to my palette. This hollow material gives in impression of mass without the actual weight and provides an additional surface (the interior) with its own potential to be worked.

Fern Accented Paper Bowl: This decorative handmade paper bowl is of traditional and locally gathered fibers including flax, hemp, kozo, corn and gingko leaves. It is accented with a line of lacy, open paper overlaid with a single fern leaf, reflecting the Missouri landscape. Fatima means "wise woman" or "dedicated". The Fatima earrings received their name after Fatima in Middle East History. I took Middle Eastern History in college, and my professor's pronunciation of the name was so lovely: "Fah--da-mah" rather than "Fuh-tee-ma", and since then I've always loved the name, Fatima. The Fatima earrings are created with a large, rectangular, bright orange carnelian stone, hand-twisted sterling silver wire, and a 6 mm teal-colored Swarovski crystal. Earwires are sterling silver. Katyayani was born in New York City to a theatrical family, and worked professionally as an actress as a young girl. She has been drawing, painting, and making mixed media constructions all her life, winning her first award at age nine from Shankars’ International Children's Competition for a painting of a lion. Katyayani studied drawing and illustration at School of Visual Arts and The Art Students League in New York, and has done illustrations and graphic design for books, magazines, newspapers and small businesses. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries and shops in Provincetown (MA), Taos (NM), and Maui (HI), including Art Maui and Hui No’eau Juried Members Exhibits.
