The PLY wall element is made of new, ultra thin birch plywood, almost see-through. The thickness of the material is 0,45 mm. This textile-like, thin plywood is attached to a solid wood frame, which again can be fixed to straight surfaces by stickers, velcro, picture hooks or screws. There are two different models of PLY, a curvy one called PLY1 and a gentle wave called PLY2. Both models come in two versions, mirror images of each other, so that the waves continue: PLY1A/PLY1B and PLY2A/PLY2B.

Aalto's intriguing Model 41 Paimio arm chair can be found in numerous museums including the Museum of Modern Art. The frame is laminated birch bent into a closed curve with solid birch cross-rails. The seat is molded from one piece of birch plywood. The springy plywood fixed on a closed frame was Aalto's 1931 brainstorm for making a wooden chair "soft". Made in Finland by Artek.

Contemporary Hamsun Collection. For the past decade, Stryn Møbel Industry AS, established in 1939, has dedicated itself to making furniture that accentuates the unique beauty of flame birch. Stryn, recognized for exclusive and high-quality products, offers a variety of fresh, contemporary designs for the dining room, living room and bedroom as well as for office, and entertainment centers. With an appearance resembling flickering flames, this magnificent wood is difficult to obtain in large quantities or lengths. Just one in ten Birch trees contains it, and then only in roots and the first two meters of trunk. Furthermore, some 60% of flame birch is not suitable for Stryn's high production standards. Compared to standard woodworking, flame birch craftsmanship demands great patience and experience, which is rewarded in the brilliance of the finished product.
