This necklace is darkly romantic. The centerpiece is an antique French Art Nouveau fleur de lys buckle with an ornate lily of the valley/flower motif. The natural patina is rich and lovely. Two vintage jet glass and dark silver chain tassles dangle from the centerpiece. The chain consists of more vintage jet glass and vintage black wood beads, with vintage antiqued sterling silver filigree flowers. A black silk ribbon has been hand-sewn to each side. Lapis lazuli is a semi-precious relatively rare stone that that has been prized since antiquity. Lapis has been mined in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan for over 6,000 years, and trade in the stone is ancient enough for lapis jewelry to have been found at Predynastic Egyptian sites. This bowl is meticulously hand cut using fine natural lapis lazuli from Afghanistan and applied over a metal base. Nearly solid blue in color with remarkable sheen.
