Born on the flat, African landscape of small farming town Kroonstad in the Free State, South Africa's Palesa Mokubung started designing and making clothes long before she could do anything else. From there she went on to study fashion at a small, private technical college and eventually went on to gain practical experience at legendary African designers Stoned Cherrie. Palesa participated in several high profile fashion events, including SA Fashion Week, as part of the Stoned Cherrie-team. Her big break came after entering a young fashion talent competition, for which she produced a fashion show using themes from South Africa's 10 Years of Freedom - celebrations as inspiration. After winning the competition, she travelled internationally with this ground breaking collection.

This self-taught designer, born on the island of Martinique in the Caribbean, left his hometown to move to Paris and begin his extraordinry journey. He is a tireless and eager traveller. His quest is one of union and fusion, which saw him leave Fort-de-France for other capitals : Paris, New Orleans, New York, London... and finally towards Africa where he often comes to work on his collections. Tradition within evolution is something that began to form in his imagination. This gave form to surprising creations, where both traditional and modern shapes co-exist harmoniously. Creations inspired by the creole sentiment and the wealth of its human heritage; creations which touch upon the symbolism of the voodoo religion as seen in the immaculate gowns of cult priestesses, with scarves and wraps which are artistically draped. These creations adorn the contemporary woman in all of her cultural diversity.

2008 is big on choice and shows plenty of strong vivid colour without the over dominance of one particular shade. Greys and black remain the biggest platforms for the execution of colour while browns stand alongside as the hottest up and comings. This season is all about keeping things simple and making great colour combinations do the work for you. This season is dressy and well groomed and shows a love of stylish, flattering, fashion that we are only too happy to indulge in.

Elke has long had a passion for travel, which took her from her hometown in Germany to settle in South Africa many years ago. However, nothing prepared her for the amazing impact of India during her first visit in 2000. She was enthralled by the exotic designs, exuberant colours and cultural influences in their accessories, which soon became a favourite with friends back home. This was the start of her search for elegant and exquisite accessories for women, and her long-term relationship with India and other countries. Today her magnificent selection of shawls, custom-made handbags and costume jewellery can be found in boutiques across South Africa. Her exclusive range has even caught celebrity attention with the likes of Ivana Trump, Elton John and Meg Ryan sporting an Elke Accessory or two. Elke strives to share more than just her fashion items with her customers - through her unique product range she wishes to instil a sense of individuality.

Once the Barabaig women made their first shawl, they were inspired to learn how to say beautiful in English. Just as we call them Amias" (meaning beautiful in the language of the Barabaig) the shawls are now known among the Barabaig women as truly bootif. It requires the labor of ten women over a full week to complete a single shawl, and each of them is its own work of art. They are as bootif on the wall as they are on the body and are striking on bare skin. This is a piece that will turn heads at any soiree.

The Barabaig women, having learned to say bootifl in English, were moved to wrap the shawl around their waists and dance around the room. They loved the way the beads moved and jingled, keeping rhythm with their singing. And so the wrap was born. It will add style to any outfit, from jeans and leggings to skirts and dresses. Can also be worn as a swimsuit cover up.
