Each day as I enter the lobby of San Francisco's ModOffices, often dressed in a frock reminiscent of this sweet and timeless rose-covered number, I gear up for one of my most cherished morning rituals - greeting our charmingly quirky security guard, Tony. He stands sentry before the collapsible plastic table where he sits most of the day, his face breaking into a wide smile for each new arrival. Whether I salute him with a simple "Good morning, Tony," or opt for a more creative, "Hi, Tony! Happy Friday," he always returns the favor in his signature singsong delivery. In his accented tones, the greeting transforms into a crescendoing "gooOOD Mor-nig-h!" followed by the slightest bow of the head and a twinkle of the eye. As if this endless enthusiasm weren't evidence enough of his cheerful demeanor and unfailing friendliness, he's frequently found tending his signature vase of fresh blooms purchased at the wholesale flower market across the street - or awaiting the arrival of his piping hot lunchtime burrito. Although he's replaced his bouquets with a petite pineapple plant these last few weeks, memories of the ever-changing blossoms he picks will stand out as one of the most unexpected but memorable details of my superlative summer spent interning here at ModCloth. Perhaps I'll take this dress home with me as a reminder of the simple joy that comes from everyday kindness. - Sophi, Writing Intern
