Vintage Erickson Art Glass Controlled Bubble Ashtray At Big Ashtray
Swedish modern style cased art glass ashtray bowl. Mid-Century American Erickson controlled bubble smoke cased glass ashtray. Erickson's glassmaking family immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s. In the 1940s-1960s, Erickson Glassworks in Bremen Ohio produced popular hand-formed glass with minute controlled bubbles. Erickson's fine 'control' of the bubbles set him apart from other makers employing the same decor. Notice the expert swirl and graduated size of the bubbles in this ashtray. Erickson Glassworks closed in 1966. Made with two layers of thick glass. Outer layer is clear. Inner layer is smoke black with controlled bubbles. In excellent condition with normal, expected heavy bottom-wear due to age. Bottom-wear occurs on the base (unseen) of any older glass item from years and years of base and surface contact. Measures 5.5' wide, 2' tall. Weighs 2½ lbs. Fits cigarettes and cigars. Doubles as a candleholder, catch-all, etc. when not in ash service. Image one is the front of the ashtray and image 2 is the backside. Image 4 shows this ashtray with a 5.5' cigar.
