Alexander McQueen Is Dead At 40
Designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London flat this morning, the cause of which has been ruled a suicide. It's a macabre end to the life of an extraordinarily talented designer who embraced darker themes in his work, elevating it to a place that transcended fashion and garnered him a reputation as a contemporary genius. It was fashion icon and magazine editor Isabella Blow who discovered McQueen in 1994 at his graduate show for Central Saint Martins, his first collection. McQueen, whose first name is actually Lee, was apparently distraught over the death of his mother just days ago. His death also comes three years after Blow took her own life, and McQueen dedicated his next collection to her. A winner of numerous fashion awards, he possessed a unique brilliance that will never be matched. Today's McQ presentation has been canceled in response to the somber news. See our slideshow for a tribute to the fallen legend, and we invite you to share your thoughts on McQueen's death in the comments section.
