Beauty Pick Me Up - Skin Flaws? Masque It!
by Ida Hsiang
Facial and spa treatments that we used to get at our favorite salon are now becoming more and more readily available in at-home versions. One such beauty product that's effective and super simple to DIY is the facial mask. Whether it comes in mask or peel form, the facial mask is a quick way to rectify any skin type. You just have to know what to look for! Well, that's where we come in. Check out our tips for the best type of facial mask for different skin types, then click on the slideshow to see some of our favorites!Normal Skin - This is a simple one! For you, a facial mask should just be for maintenance and prevention. Look for moisturizing face masks chock full of vitamin C or anti-oxidants. Apply a face mask once every 2 weeks.Oily Skin - Look for a clay mask or a facial peel that will mattify and control shine. Steer clear of anything that's super moisturizing as this can lead to even more shine. Try a mask once a week for optimum results!Dry Skin - A facial mask once a week can do wonders for dry skin. Look for options that have vitamin E and are highly moisturizing. A quick tip for a little added hydration? Smooth on a dime sized amount of night cream after your done with the facial mask!
Beauty Pick Me Up - Your Best Facial ... At Home!
by Ida Hsiang
Daily stresses, long nights, free radicals ... all these things can really do a number on our skin. Your skin is your best accessory so you want to make sure it's always looking smooth, dewy and fresh but not all of us may have the time or budget to get ourselves into the spa once a week.No worries! You can pamper yourself in the comfort of your own home and get the same results with ingredients from the fridge or extras in your bathroom cabinet. A daily cleansing and moisturizing routine is a must, but you'd be surprised what a difference a weekly or bi-weekly facial can do! So always look glowing and fresh no matter what type of skin issue you may have! Take a look at these three facials and find the one that's perfect for you! Skin Revival - This facial of perfect for those with relatively problem free skin and are just looking for a way to get that glow back in the middle of the week. First, put 2 cups of water in a small sauce pan and bring to a boil. In a large bowl, add another 2 cups of water and a few ice-cubes and throw in a face towel. While waiting, wash your face with your normal cleanser. Pat dry and when the water has come to a boil, lean your face over the pot, hovering about 6-8 inches above and drape a towel over your head and face. Stay this way for about 5 mins. (feel free to come up for air if it starts to get too steamy!)Wring out the face towel in the ice bath and put it over your face. Let this stay for 2 minutes, re-dipping and wringing at the one minute mark if the cold in the towel is gone. This allows pores to open and retract, leaving skin glowing and supple,Dry Skin/ Fine Line Moisture Boost - Here's 2 faves that work! This is perfect for those with dry skin and fine lines that need a boost of hydration. For the first, separate an egg and use only the yolk. Add in a tsp of olive oil and a teaspoon of honey. Mix well and apply to your cleansed face. Let sit for 15-20 mins and rinse with warm water.Need a quick fix? Try this second facial - Mash up an avocado with 3 tsp of plain yogurt and mix well. Apply evenly on your cleansed face and let it sit for 10-15 mins. Rinse with warm water. The natural oils and vitamins in these foods help boost hydration and reduce the appearance of fine lines while leaving skin soft and dewy.Blemish Remedy - Outside facial masks and beauty products can sometimes be too harsh on already red and sensitive skin. Try on of these 2 facial methods to clear the skin of blemishes, prevent pimples and reduce redness. Mash or blend a tomato. In a bowl, mix the tomato puree with 2 tablespoons of powdered milk or plain yogurt. Mix into a paste and apply it to cleansed face. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. This one is a great skin soother. Simply blend a small handful of asparagus spears and add a few tablespoons of oatmeal (NOT the flavored kind!). Mash into a paste and apply it to the affected areas. Let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.
